La scultura del giorno che vi propongo oggi è Red Angel di Cicero D’Ávila, scultore contemporaneo brasiliano che ha studiato presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara.

Per modellare prima in creta e poi creare il modello in gesso con le repere e scolpire l’opera Red Angel, D’Avila ha impiegato circa due anni, terminando il lavoro nel 2012.

Il soggetto solo in apparenza sembra un classico angelo ma guardando meglio i dettagli, si percepisce una proposta in chiave più moderna.

Per dar forma al capolavoro nel suo studio di San Paolo, in Brasile, l’artista ha fatto arrivare in loco un blocco di marmo di Carrara di 5,5 tonnellate.

E’ lampante la sensualità dell’angelo che invece nella scultura tradizionale viene celata o sospesa. Ha le forme di una donna abbigliata con una sottile veste che non ne cela le forme ma anzi, le mette in evidenza.

Le due grandi ali finemente lavorate lasciano spazio al corpo della giovane seduta sul blocco di marmo.

I boccoli rossi le incorniciano il volto mentre si empie le gote di aria per soffiare sulle ali della creatura che porta sul palmo della mano: è il modo che adopera per alimentarne la passione.

Guardate bene infatti cosa ha in mano l’angelo: non è una semplice farfalla.

Lo scultore Cicero D’Ávila prima ha studiato lettere presso l’Università di São Paulo e successivamente ha studiato scultura presso l’Accademia di Carrara in Toscana.

Specializzato nella scultura figurativa, ha realizzato importanti opere anche su commissione come per esempio Madre Teresa di Calcutta per la Basilica del Santuario Nazionale dell’Immacolata Concezione a Washington, la più importante cattedrale americana.

The sculpture of the day that I propose to you today is Red Angel by Cicero D’Ávila, a contemporary Brazilian sculptor who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara.

In fact, take a good look at what the angel is holding: it is not a simple butterfly.

Sculptor Cicero D’Ávila first studied literature at the University of São Paulo and later studied sculpture at the Carrara Academy in Tuscany.

Specializing in figurative sculpture, he has also created important commissioned works such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, the most important American cathedral.
