Se desiderate vedere per l’ultima volta il Salone di Donatello prima della chiusura, affrettatevi. Avete tempo fino al 5 giugno per farlo poi serrerà le porte al pubblico fino al mese di ottobre.

Chiudere il Salone di Donatello proprio nel periodo di maggiore affluenza di visitatori a mio avviso non è stata una scelta azzeccata, tutt’altro. Non sarebbe stato meglio effettuare i lavori nel periodo che va da gennaio a Pasqua quando gli ingressi abitualmente sono inferiori per consentire a chi arriva da ogni parte del mondo di poter ammirare tutte le opere presenti e il salone stesso?

Saranno solo tredici le opere delle sessantasette presenti nel Salone ad essere spostate temporaneamente nella sala mostre al piano terra per consentirne la fruizione ai visitatori durante i mesi necessari per riallestire lo spazio al piano superiore dedicato al padre del Rinascimento.

Il Salone, un tempo noto come Sala dell’Udienza è uno degli ambienti fondamentali del percorso museale. Al suo interno sono custodite opere capisaldo della produzione artistica del grande Donatello: il David in bronzo, quello in marmo, il San Giorgio, Amore-Attis, il Marzocco e la Madonna di via Pietrapiana, recentemente acquistata per dal Museo dal Ministero della Cultura.

Al fianco di queste opere di Donatello sono esposti altri capolavori assoluti dell’arte mondiale come il David del Verrocchio, una vasta collezione di robbiane, le formelle del Ghiberti e del Brunelleschi e molte altre ancora.

Il Salone però chiuderà l’accesso al pubblico per tutta l’estate permettere la realizzazione di lavori di restauro e riallestimento previsti da tempo. Durante il periodo di chiusura al pubblico, come accennato prima, un nucleo di 13 capolavori (10 rilievi e 3 statue in bronzo) saranno trasferiti in una delle due sale mostra al piano terra per non precludere ai visitatori la possibilità di fruirne.

La sala al piano terra sarà accessibile a partire dal 7 giugno e per tutta la durata dei lavori.

I lavori nel Salone di Donatello, finanziati con fondi propri dell’Amministrazione per un totale di 300.000 euro, saranno molto impegnativi poiché consistono nel risanamento di quasi 1000 metri quadrati di superfici suddivisi in 800 metri quadrati di pareti e 180 di soffitti a volta.

Si tratta di lavori di manutenzione conservativa delle superfici intonacate e dipinte, che vanno dalla pulitura diffusa alla rimozione di tinteggiature esistenti non idonee alla conservazione, dal consolidamento di porzioni di intonaco alla stuccatura di fessurazioni fino alla coloritura a calce delle superfici, per uniformare l’effetto finale delle pareti o dei soffitti voltati.

Per quanto riguarda le superfici decorate è prevista una pulitura a secco, con successiva reintegrazione cromatica mimetica delle lacune.

L’intervento dovrà inoltre mantenere l’evidenza delle tracce murarie, tuttora visibili sulla parete nord, corrispondenti all’antica suddivisione in celle, risalente all’epoca della destinazione dell’edificio a carcere, che comportò una suddivisione in altezza del Salone in quattro piani, ciascuno comprendente trentadue celle. Nel 1574, infatti, alla fine del principato di Cosimo I dei Medici l’edificio fu destinato a carcere e a sede del bargello, l’allora capo della polizia.

Il Salone di Donatello riaprirà con un rinnovato allestimento che godrà del nuovo impianto di illuminazione realizzato grazie alla generosa donazione di 166.183,52 euro offerta al museo dai “Friends of the Bargello” nel 2022.

Bargello: Donatello’s salon closes

If you want to see the Donatello Salon for the last time before it closes, hurry. You have until June 5th to do so, then the doors will be closed to the public until October.

Closing the Donatello Salon right in the period of greatest influx of visitors, in my opinion, was not a good choice, far from it. Wouldn’t it have been better to carry out the work in the period from January to Easter when admissions are usually lower to allow those arriving from all over the world to be able to admire all the works present and the hall itself?

Only thirteen of the sixty-seven works present in the Salon will be temporarily moved to the exhibition room on the ground floor to allow visitors to enjoy them during the months necessary to rearrange the space on the upper floor dedicated to the father of the Renaissance.

The Hall, once known as the Audience Hall, is one of the fundamental areas of the museum itinerary. Inside there are cornerstone works of the great Donatello’s artistic production: the bronze David, the marble one, the San Giorgio, Amore-Attis, the Marzocco and the Madonna of via Pietrapiana, recently purchased by the Museum from the Ministry of Culture.

Alongside these works by Donatello, other absolute masterpieces of world art are exhibited such as Verrocchio’s David, a vast collection of Della Robbia paintings, panels by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi and many others.

However, the Show will close access to the public for the entire summer to allow for the long-planned restoration and rearrangement work to be carried out. During the period of closure to the public, as mentioned before, a group of 13 masterpieces (10 reliefs and 3 bronze statues) will be transferred to one of the two exhibition rooms on the ground floor so as not to preclude visitors from enjoying them.

The room on the ground floor will be accessible starting from June 7th and for the entire duration of the works.

The works in the Donatello Hall, financed with the Administration’s own funds for a total of 300,000 euros, will be very demanding as they consist of the renovation of almost 1000 square meters of surfaces divided into 800 square meters of walls and 180 of vaulted ceilings.

These are conservative maintenance works on plastered and painted surfaces, ranging from widespread cleaning to the removal of existing paintwork that is not suitable for conservation, from the consolidation of portions of plaster to the filling of cracks up to the lime coloring of the surfaces, to make the surface uniform. final effect of vaulted walls or ceilings.

As regards the decorated surfaces, dry cleaning is envisaged, with subsequent camouflage chromatic reintegration of the gaps.

The intervention will also have to maintain the evidence of the wall traces, still visible on the north wall, corresponding to the ancient division into cells, dating back to the time the building was used as a prison, which involved a height division of the Hall into four floors , each comprising thirty-two cells. In 1574, in fact, at the end of the principality of Cosimo I dei Medici, the building was used as a prison and as the seat of the bargello, the then chief of police.

The Donatello Salon will reopen with a renewed layout which will benefit from the new lighting system created thanks to the generous donation of 166,183.52 euros offered to the museum by the “Friends of the Bargello” in 2022.
