Edvard Munch, considerato a ragione un precursore dell’Espressionismo e uno dei maggiori esponenti simbolisti dell’Ottocento, sta per tornare a Milano dopo quarant’anni dall’ultima volta, con le sue più profonde inquietudini.

L’artista verrà celebrato con una grande retrospettiva promossa dal Comune di Milano in collaborazione con i Munch Museum di Oslo, patrocinata dalla Reale Ambasciata di Norvegia di Roma con la produzione di Palazzo Reale e Arthemisia.

La vita di Munch è stata fortemente segnata da dolori insostenibili che lo hanno portato sull’orlo della follia. Le perdite premature della madre e della sorella, la terribile morte del padre e la tormentata relazione che ebbe con la fidanzata Tulla Larsen hanno contribuito a formare la poetica di Munch, che riuscì a esprimere con il proprio talento, il suo grido interiore.

Le sue opere sono caratterizzate da volti senza sguardo, paesaggi stralunati e da un utilizzo quasi prepotente potente del colore.

Il suo malessere divenne arte ed ebbe la capacità di creare opere permeate di sentimenti universali divenendo uno
degli artisti più iconici del Novecento.

La mostra “Munch: il grido interiore” è curata da Patricia Berman, al momento considerata una delle più grandi studiose al mondo dell’artista. Il percorso espositivo verterà attorno al percorso umano di Munch e alla sua produzione artistica attraverso cento opere.

Tra i capolavori esposti vale la pena menzionare una delle versioni litografiche dell’Urlo, la Notte Stellata, la Morte di Marat e le Ragazze sul ponte.

La mostra inoltre sarà arricchita da un nutrito palinsesto di eventi che coinvolgerà realtà culturali differenti, mirate ad approfondire la conoscenza dell’artista e dei temi da lui trattati attraverso la pittura.

La mostra verrà inaugurata il 14 settembre 2024 e proseguirà fino al 26 gennaio 2025 poi avrà una seconda tappa a Palazzo Bonaparte a Roma, dal 18 febbraio fino al 2 giugno 2025.

The inner cry: the Munch exhibition is coming to Palazzo Reale, Milan

Edvard Munch, rightly considered a precursor of Expressionism and one of the greatest symbolist exponents of the nineteenth century, is about to return to Milan forty years after the last time, with his deepest concerns.

The artist will be celebrated with a major retrospective promoted by the Municipality of Milan in collaboration with the Munch Museum in Oslo, sponsored by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Rome with the production of Palazzo Reale and Arthemisia.

Munch’s life was strongly marked by unbearable pain that brought him to the brink of madness. The premature losses of his mother and sister, the terrible death of his father and the tormented relationship he had with his girlfriend Tulla Larsen contributed to forming Munch’s poetics, who managed to express his inner cry with his talent.

His works are characterized by gazeless faces, dazed landscapes and an almost overbearingly powerful use of color.

His discomfort became art and he had the ability to create works permeated with universal feelings, becoming one
of the most iconic artists of the twentieth century.

The exhibition “Munch: the inner cry” is curated by Patricia Berman, currently considered one of the world’s greatest scholars of the artist. The exhibition itinerary will focus on Munch’s human journey and his artistic production through one hundred works.

Among the masterpieces on display it is worth mentioning one of the lithographic versions of the Scream, the Starry Night, the Death of Marat and the Girls on the Bridge.

The exhibition will also be enriched by a rich schedule of events that will involve different cultural realities, aimed at deepening knowledge of the artist and the themes he dealt with through painting.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on 14 September 2024 and will continue until 26 January 2025, then it will have a second stage at Palazzo Bonaparte in Rome, from 18 February until 2 June 2025.
