Da lunedì 19 settembre 2022 sarà possibile visitare l’intero Palazzo Portinari Salviati le cui origini risalgono a Folco Portinari padre di Beatrice, la celeberrima musa ispiratrice di Dante Alighieri.

Durante le visite guidate organizzate in piccoli gruppi sarà possibile ammirare da vicino gli stupendi dipinti di Alessandro Allori e i due aiuti, Giovanni Maria Butteri e da Alessandro Pieroniaiuti.

L’Allori iniziò a lavorare ai decori pittorici fra il 1579 e il 1580 all’interno della Cappella Salviati dedicati a Maria Maddalena e su una parete della Cappella, consacrata nell’agosto del 1581, fa la comparsa la sua firma.

Finalmente, dopo anni di abbandono, la cappella è stata restaurata e durante le indagini diagnostiche è venuto fuori che le pitture murarie non sono affreschi bensì dipinti ad olio: una tecnica poco usata a Firenze. Il recupero dei 12mila metri quadrati d’interni di Palazzo Portinari Salviati ha avuto inizio nel 2019 ed è terminato adesso con la conclusione del restauro della Cappella Salviati.

L’intervento, ad opera della proprietà LDC Group, è stato realizzato sotto la tutela della Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la città metropolitana di Firenze e le province di Pistoia e Prato.

Il restauro della Cappella Salviati e delle altre decorazioni di Palazzo Portinari Salviati è stato eseguito dalla restauratrice Anna Medori (Faberestauro) con la collaborazione di Andrea Vigna (Habilis) e la direzione di Adriana Novelli, project manager LDC Group, e del restauratore Guido Botticelli.

All’interno della Cappella Salviati l’Allori raffigurò profeti e sibille affiancati da putti che sorreggono cartigli riportanti brani della Bibbia. Sulle pareti dipinse finti arazzi e tre storie della Maddalena: lei che asciuga i piedi di Cristo durante la cena a casa di Simone, il Noli me tangere e la Comunione. Completa i ciclo pittorico la pala d’altare con Cristo in casa di Marta e Maria mentre una predella ahimè andata perduta, era dedicata alla Resurrezione di Lazzaro.

Stupisce l’utilizzo che è stato fatto dell’oro che, steso abbondantemente, dona luminosità alle pitture. Sopra la porta d’ingresso l’Allori dipinse Cristo sorretto da due angeli mentre sulle pareti attigue si nota la presenza dei Santi Jacopo, Lorenzo e Francesco.

L’Allori non si limitò a dipingere quelle scene ma volle descrivere nel dettaglio il programma iconografico della cappella annotando nei suoi Ricordi che fu lui stesso a dipingere i termini e le quattro figure nella base di finto marmo mentre fu aiutato dai suoi collaboratori per il resto degli affreschi.

Visite a Palazzo Portinari Salviati: cosa vedere, costi e prenotazioni

Da lunedì 19 settembre sarà possibile visitare Palazzo Portinari Salviati grazie a visite guidate per piccoli gruppi, organizzate ogni lunedì, dalle 10.30 alle 12 e dalle 15.30 alle 17, su prenotazione.

L’itinerario di visita potrà comprendere, asseconda delle disponibilità, la Cappella Salviati, la Corte di Cosimo I, la Corte degli Imperatori e le stanze attigue con i preziosi cicli di affreschi dedicati all’Odissea e alle storie di Ercole, realizzati anch’essi da Alessandro Allori e aiuti tra il 1574 e il 1576.

Al piano nobile sarà possibile vedere i soffitti delle suite affrescati nel Settecento da Tommaso Gherardini e aiuti, oltre alla Galleria con la volta affrescata che rappresenta l’Olimpo tra le allegorie del Giorno e della Notte. Nella grande suite Francesco I de’ Medici i visitatori potranno ammirare i soffitti a cassettoni con gli originali decori quattrocenteschi che rappresentano l’arma Portinari, una porta tra due leoni rampanti.

Il costo delle visite guidate è di 15 euro a persona, 10 per i residenti in città. Per volontà della famiglia Chang, proprietaria di LDC Group, l’intero ricavato sarà devoluto per finanziare dei restauri in città.

The Salviati dell’Allori Chapel opens to the public

From Monday 19 September 2022 it will be possible to visit the entire Palazzo Portinari Salviati whose origins date back to Folco Portinari, father of Beatrice, the famous muse of Dante Alighieri.

During the guided tours organized in small groups it will be possible to closely admire the wonderful paintings by Alessandro Allori and the two assistants, Giovanni Maria Butteri and Alessandro Pieroniaiuti. Allori began working on the pictorial decorations between 1579 and 1580, inside the Salviati Chapel dedicated to Mary Magdalene and his signature appears on a wall of the chapel, consecrated in August 1581.

Finally, after years of neglect, the chapel was restored and during the diagnostic investigations it turned out that the wall paintings are not frescoes but oil paintings: a technique little used in Florence. The recovery of the 12 thousand square meters of the interior of Palazzo Portinari Salviati began in 2019 and has now ended with the completion of the restoration of the Salviati Chapel.

The intervention, by the property of the LDC Group, was carried out under the protection of the Superintendency of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan city of Florence and the provinces of Pistoia and Prato.

The restoration of the Salviati Chapel and the other decorations of Palazzo Portinari Salviati was carried out by the restorer Anna Medori (Faberestauro) with the collaboration of Andrea Vigna (Habilis) and the direction of Adriana Novelli, project manager LDC Group, and the restorer Guido Botticelli.

Inside the Salviati Chapel, Allori depicted prophets and sibyls flanked by cherubs holding scrolls bearing passages from the Bible. On the walls he painted fake tapestries and three stories of the Magdalene: she drying Christ’s feet during dinner at Simon’s house, the Noli me tangere and Communion. He completes the pictorial cycle the altarpiece with Christ in the house of Martha and Mary while a predella, alas, lost, was dedicated to the Resurrection of Lazarus.

He is amazed by the use that has been made of the gold which, when applied abundantly, gives brightness to the paintings. Above the entrance door, Allori painted Christ supported by two angels while on the adjacent walls the presence of Saints Jacopo, Lorenzo and Francesco can be seen.

Allori did not limit himself to painting those scenes but wanted to describe in detail the iconographic program of the chapel, noting in his Ricordi that it was he himself who painted the terms and the four figures in the fake marble base while he was helped by his collaborators for the rest. of the frescoes.

Visits to Palazzo Portinari Salviati: what to see, costs and reservations

From Monday 19 September it will be possible to visit Palazzo Portinari Salviati thanks to guided tours for small groups, organized every Monday, from 10.30 to 12 and from 15.30 to 17, upon reservation.

The tour itinerary may include, depending on availability, the Salviati Chapel, the Court of Cosimo I, the Court of the Emperors and the adjoining rooms with the precious cycles of frescoes dedicated to the Odyssey and the stories of Hercules, also made by Alessandro Allori and aids between 1574 and 1576.

On the main floor it will be possible to see the ceilings of the suites frescoed in the eighteenth century by Tommaso Gherardini and assistants, in addition to the Gallery with the frescoed vault that represents Olympus between the allegories of Day and Night. In the large Francesco I de ‘Medici suite, visitors can admire the coffered ceilings with the original fifteenth-century decorations representing the Portinari weapon, a door between two rampant lions.

The cost of the guided tours is 15 euros per person, 10 for city residents. By the will of the Chang family, owner of the LDC Group, the entire proceeds will be donated to finance renovations in the city.
