La grande cattedrale della Sagrada Familia, iconica chiesa di Barcellona progettata da Antoni Gaudì, dopo oltre 140 anni dall’inizio della sua edificazione sta per essere portata a termine.

I lavori furono avviati nel 1882 e dovrebbero essere portati a termine entro il 2026 ma prima del previsto, sono già stati ultimati i lavori che interessavano le cinque torri centrali.

Nonostante serviranno ancora tre anni per completare la sesta nonché ultima torre, il prossimo 12 novembre all’interno della Sagrada familia verrà celebrata la messa di inaugurazione durante la quale verranno illuminate a festa le torri dedicate agli evangelisti che continueranno a splendere nel cielo di Barcellona fino al periodo natalizio.

La Sagrada Familia è senza dubbio il capolavoro massimo dell’architetto catalano Gaudì con le sue 18 torri a forma di fuso, ciascuna dedicata a una differente figura biblica: i dodici apostoli, i quattro evangelisti, la Vergine Maria coronata da una stella a dodici punte e Cristo.

In particolar modo le torri degli evangelisti raggiungono i 135 metri di altezza mentre l’ultima torre, la più alta, è quella dedicata a Cristo elevandosi da terra di 172,5 metri, sormontata poi da una croce alta ben 17 metri.

I lavori di costruzione della celeberrima chiesa si sono protratti oltre le aspettative iniziali a causa di una serie di eventi poco fortunati.

Primo di tutti la morte di Gaudì avvenuta nel 1926 poi la guerra civile spagnola e i danni causati da vandali. I progressi di costruzione sono stati evidenti negli ultimi anni, escludendo il periodo di interruzione dovuto alla pandemia.

Quando sarà ultimata la torre di Cristo, la Sagrada Familia diventerà la cattedrale più alta del mondo, superando la cattedrale di Ulm in Germania, con il suo campanile di 161,53 metri.

Considerate che la cupola di San Pietro si eleva dal piano stradale per un’altezza di 133,30 metri.

Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia will soon be inaugurated after over 140 years since the works began

The great cathedral of the Sagrada Familia, the iconic church of Barcelona designed by Antoni Gaudì, is about to be completed after more than 140 years from the beginning of its construction.

The works began in 1882 and should be completed by 2026 but earlier than expected, the works involving the five central towers have already been completed.

Although it will still take three years to complete the sixth and final tower, the inauguration mass will be celebrated inside the Sagrada Familia on November 12th during which the towers dedicated to the evangelists will be festively lit and will continue to shine in the sky of Barcelona until to the Christmas period.

The Sagrada Familia is undoubtedly the greatest masterpiece of the Catalan architect Gaudi with its 18 spindle-shaped towers, each dedicated to a different biblical figure: the twelve apostles, the four evangelists, the Virgin Mary crowned with a twelve-pointed star and Christ.
