“Borromini e Bernini, sfida alla perfezione” è il nuovo docufilm che presto avremo modo di vedere sui grandi schermi.

Diretto da Giovanni Troili su soggetto di Lucia Lancise, arriverà nelle sale il 15, 16 e 17 di maggio. E’ una produzione sky e Quoiat film distribuita nelle sale da Nexo Digital.

“Borromini e Bernini, sfida alla perfezione” è la narrazione della vita del Borromini e della grande competizione che ci fu fra i due artisti del Barocco. La loro genialità cambiò l’aspetto di Roma ed entrambi ebbero il coraggio di portare avanti le proprie idee pagandone il prezzo fino in fondo.

Lo stile di Borromini è riconoscibile, eccentrico, diverso. Si distingue nettamente da quello dei suoi contemporanei e ha continue allusioni che evocano l’infinito. L’artista però dovette fare i conti con un altro smisurato talento che poco a poco gli rubò la scena: il Bernini.

Il Borromini però non dovette solo combattere con la feroce rivalità che ebbe con il Bernini ma anche contro i suoi propri demoni che pareva lo divorassero dall’interno. In un’impeto d’ira si trafisse con una spada ponendo fine ai suoi tormenti e alla propria esistenza.

Francesco Borromini arrivò a Roma a piedi da Milano che ancora non aveva compiuto vent’anni. Si lasciò alle spalle la famiglia d’origine e il lavoro da scalpellino al duomo con la speranza di riuscire a entrare nel più prestigioso cantiere dell’epoca: la Fabbrica di San Pietro in Vaticano.

Era il 1619 e Roma pareva il centro del mondo. Ogni giorno nascevano nuovo cantieri per mettere in piedi fontane spettacolari, palazzi e chiese.

Il docu film Borromini e Bernini, sfida alla perfezione è ambientato fra le strade di Roma, fra Palazzo Barberini, San Pietro, San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, Sant’Andrea al Quirinale, l’Oratorio di San Filippo Neri, la Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, Piazza Navona, la Chiesa di Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza, Villa Adriana a Tivoli e si spinge poi alla Villa-giardino di Paolo Portoghesi a Calcata, Viterbo, fino ad arrivare alla Tomba di Borromini a San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini, dove l’artista riposa ancor oggi.

Al viaggio visivo danno voce e pensiero le rievocazioni in chiave contemporanea, con gli attori Jacopo Olmo Antinori, Pierangelo Menci e Antonio Lanni, e gli interventi degli esperti coinvolti nel film: il critico d’arte e regista Waldemar Januszczak, l’architetto e accademico Paolo Portoghesi, il prof. della Cornell University di Roma Jeffrey Blanchard, il professore associato presso l’Università di Camerino Giuseppe Bonaccorso, la curatrice e critica d’arte Aindrea Emelife, la Professoressa di Storia dell’arte medievale e moderna alla American University di Roma Daria Borghese.

“Borromini and Bernini, challenge to perfection” is the narration of the life of Borromini and of the great competition that there was between the two Baroque artists. Their genius changed the face of Rome and both had the courage to carry on their ideas paying the price to the bottom.

Borromini’s style is recognizable, eccentric, different. It stands out clearly from that of its contemporaries and has constant allusions that evoke the infinite. However, the artist had to deal with another immense talent that gradually stole the scene from him: Bernini.

However, Borromini not only had to fight with the fierce rivalry he had with Bernini but also against his own demons that seemed to devour him from within. In a fit of rage he pierced himself with a sword putting an end to his torments and his own existence.

Francesco Borromini arrived in Rome on foot from Milan who had not yet turned twenty. He left behind his family of origin and his job as a stonemason in the cathedral with the hope of being able to enter the most prestigious construction site of the time: the Fabbrica di San Pietro in the Vatican.

It was 1619 and Rome seemed the center of the world. Every day new construction sites were born to build spectacular fountains, palaces and churches.

The documentary film Borromini and Bernini, challenge to perfection is set in the streets of Rome, between Palazzo Barberini, San Pietro, San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, Sant’Andrea al Quirinale, the Oratory of San Filippo Neri, the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, Piazza Navona, the Church of Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza, Villa Adriana in Tivoli and then goes on to the Villa-garden of Paolo Portoghesi in Calcata, Viterbo, up to the Tomb of Borromini in San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini, where the artist still rests today.

The re-enactments in a contemporary key give voice and thought to the visual journey, with the actors Jacopo Olmo Antinori, Pierangelo Menci and Antonio Lanni, and the interventions of the experts involved in the film: the art critic and director Waldemar Januszczak, the architect and academic Paolo Portoghesi, Prof. of the Cornell University of Rome Jeffrey Blanchard, the associate professor at the University of Camerino Giuseppe Bonaccorso, the curator and art critic Aindrea Emelife, the Professor of History of Medieval and Modern Art at the American University of Rome Daria Borghese.
