La Galleria degli Uffizi ospita una straordinaria esposizione per celebrare la rinascita artistica a trentun anni di distanza dalla devastante strage di Via dei Georgofili del 1993.

Tale evento commemorativo mette al centro della scena i due capolavori restaurati: il Concerto e i Giocatori di carte del celebre pittore caravaggista Bartolomeo Manfredi. Le opere sono state ripristinate grazie a un lavoro enorme e sono stati presi a simbolo della speranza dinanzi all’oscurità della storia più recente.

Gli eccezionali dipinti, accompagnati dalle loro raffigurazioni d’epoca, testimoniano la maestria del pittore del Seicento Bartolomeo Manfredi. Dopo l’attentato mafioso, il Concerto è stata la prima opera a essere sottoposta a un intervento di restauro, già nel 1993, seguita successivamente da i Giocatori, recuperata in occasione della ricorrenza della strage nel 2018.

Simone Verde, il direttore degli Uffizi, ha sottolineato l’importanza di ricordare l’attentato e l’innocenza delle cinque vittime, affermando che la mostra non solo rende omaggio agli eccezionali capolavori, ma trasmette un potentie messaggio civico per il futuro.

Recupero miracoloso e esposizione

Entrambi i dipinti erano esposti lungo lo scalone di accesso al Corridoio Vasariano e, insieme a un altro capolavoro danneggiato, ‘L’Adorazione del Bambino’ di Gherardo delle Notti‘, sono stati restaurati dopo l’esplosione dei 277 chili di tritolo.

I frammenti recuperati sono stati pazientemente ricomposti come in un miracoloso puzzle, restituendo parzialmente l’integrità delle opere danneggiate.

La mostra, visibile dal 26 maggio al 28 luglio, offre agli avventori l’opportunità di contemplare questi capolavori e di immergersi nella storia del loro recupero. Ad arricchire l’esperienza, sarà proiettato un documentario video con le testimonianze dei soccorritori e dei lavoratori del museo che si adoperarono per limitare i danni causati dall’esplosione.

L’esposizione di questi tesori artistici, rinati dalle macerie della storia, rappresenta un’occasione unica per riflettere sulla resilienza umana e sull’importanza di preservare il patrimonio culturale.

Exhibition at the Uffizi: the masterpieces restored after the Georgofili massacre

The Uffizi Gallery hosts an extraordinary exhibition to celebrate the artistic rebirth thirty-one years after the devastating Via dei Georgofili massacre in 1993.

This commemorative event puts the two restored masterpieces at center stage: the Concert and the Card Players by the famous Caravaggio painter Bartolomeo Manfredi. The works were restored thanks to enormous work and were taken as a symbol of hope in the face of the darkness of recent history.

The exceptional paintings, accompanied by their period depictions, testify to the mastery of the seventeenth-century painter Bartolomeo Manfredi. After the mafia attack, the Concerto was the first work to undergo restoration work, already in 1993, followed subsequently by the Players, recovered on the occasion of the anniversary of the massacre in 2018.

Simone Verde, the director of the Uffizi, underlined the importance of remembering the attack and the innocence of the five victims, stating that the exhibition not only pays homage to the exceptional masterpieces, but transmits a powerful civic message for the future.

Miraculous recovery and exposure

Both paintings were exhibited along the staircase leading to the Vasari Corridor and, together with another damaged masterpiece, ‘The Adoration of the Child’ by Gherardo delle Notti’, were restored after the explosion of the 277 kilos of TNT.

The recovered fragments were patiently recomposed as in a miraculous puzzle, partially restoring the integrity of the damaged works.

The exhibition, visible from May 26 to July 28, offers patrons the opportunity to contemplate these masterpieces and immerse themselves in the story of their recovery. To enrich the experience, a video documentary will be screened with the testimonies of the rescuers and museum workers who worked to limit the damage caused by the explosion.

The exhibition of these artistic treasures, reborn from the rubble of history, represents a unique opportunity to reflect on human resilience and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
