E così siamo arrivati a questo 31 dicembre, ultimo giorno dell’anno dedicato a San Silvestro, il trentatreesimo pontefice della storia della Chiesa. E’ tempo di bilanci e di rese dei conti ma anche di speranze e buone propositi per l’anno nuovo che sta per avere inizio.

Programmi per il prossimo futuro? Beh tanti, alcuni molto ambiziosi e chissà se potranno andare a buon segno oppure incontreranno più ostacoli del previsto per essere portati a compimento.

Per il momento vi propongo i dieci articoli pubblicati in questo 2022 che sono stati più letti e condivisi.

1. Astuzie adoperate per affrescare la volta della Sistina

Così come posi una particolare attenzione nello scolpire o nel dipingere anche i dettagli più minuti, prestai la medesima cura nel preparare il supporto per la pittura a buon fresco. Durante il restauro della volta della Cappella Sistina, si sono scoperte alcune particolarità degne di nota: delle vere e proprie astuzie… Segue QUA.

2. Primavera del Botticelli: in due si incollano al cristallo

Questa mattina, tre ragazzi, dopo essere entrati all’interno della Galleria degli Uffizi, attorno alle 10:30 hanno messo in scena una protesta che ha lasciato di stucco visitatori e personale di servizio. Mentre un ragazzo a terra srotolava lo striscione con la scritta “Ultima Generazione No Gas No Carbone” gli altri due si sono letteralmente incollati al cristallo… Segue QUA.

3. Le tre Pietà di Michelangelo a Firenze

Da domani 24 febbraio 2022 aprirà al pubblico la nuova mostra “Le tre Pietà di Michelangelo. Non vi si pensa quanto sangue costa” al Museo dell’Opera del Duomo di Firenze. Questa mattina è stata presentata alla stampa alla presenza dei curatori … Segue QUA.

4. Il pavimento del Duomo di Milano

I pavimenti delle chiese, calpestati da centinaia di fedeli e visitatori, sono spesso degli autentici capolavori. Basta pensare al tappeto marmoreo della Basilica di San Pietro o quello del duomo di Firenze dedicato a Santa Maria de Fiore per avere un’idea di quanta ricchezza di ingegno ci possiamo ritrovare sotto i piedi…. 5. Torna visibile il pavimento della cattedrale di Siena

Il mio caro amico Giorgio Vasari lo definì come il pavimento “più bello, grande e magnifico che mai fusse stato fatto” . Lo stupefacente pavimento della cattedrale di Siena, dedicata a di Santa Maria Assunta, torna finalmente accessibile pubblico o meglio, accessibile lo è sempre stato ma coperto per proteggerlo dal calpestio dei numerosi visitatori. 6. Scoperta a Villa Farnesina: ritrovato importante atto vandalico del ‘500

Durante i restauri spesso vengono alla luce cose sorprendenti ed è quello che è appena accaduto a Villa Farnesina a Roma. Il restauratore, scrittore e architetto Antonio Forcellino è al momento impegnato con i restauro degli affreschi del Sodoma, al secolo Giovanni Antonio Bazzi. Segue QUA.

7. Pietà Vaticana: i fori sul capo della Vergine e del Cristo

Avete mai notato che il Cristo e la Vergine della Pietà Vaticana hanno dei fori circolari sul capo? Si possono vedere bene guardando delle foto scattate a distanza ravvicinata della testa della Madonna ripresa dall’alto e quella del Figlio vista di lato… segue QUA

8. Cappella Brancacci: cantiere visitabile con gli affreschi ad altezza d’occhi

Passeggiare sui ponteggi del cantiere di restauro della Cappella Brancacci per me è un po’ come tornare indietro nel tempo. Non che sia mai salito lassù assieme agli artisti che han messo mano a quei capolavori ma da giù, seduto con le gambe incrocicchiate, copiavo a carboncino su carta quelle figure… segue QUA

9. La punta dello scalpello ritrovata in un’opera mia

Quando vengono intrapresi restauri, spesso si scoprono cose nuove anche su opere molto note e restaurate magari trenta o quaranta anni prima. E’ esattamente ciò che è accaduto durante il restauro che ha avuto come protagonista la Sagrestia Nuova a Firenze...segue QUA

10. I marmi estratti da me a Seravezza finiti nel pavimento del duomo di Firenze

Il coloratissimo tappeto formato dagli intarsi di marmorei del pavimento della Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore ha molto a che fare con me e con i terribili anni che trascorsi nelle terre di Seravezza. Segue QUA

The most read articles of 2022

And so we have arrived at this December 31st, the last day of the year dedicated to San Silvestro, the thirty-third pontiff in the history of the Church. It’s time for balance sheets and accounts but also for hopes and good resolutions for the new year that is about to begin.

Plans for the near future? Well many, some very ambitious and who knows if they will be successful or will encounter more obstacles than expected to be completed.

6. Discovery at Villa Farnesina: important act of vandalism from the 1500s found

During the restorations surprising things often come to light and this is what has just happened at Villa Farnesina in Rome. The restorer, writer and architect Antonio Forcellino is currently busy with the restoration of the frescoes by Sodoma, born Giovanni Antonio Bazzi. Follow HERE.

Have you ever noticed that the Christ and the Virgin of the Vatican Pietà have circular holes on the head? They can be clearly seen by looking at the photos taken at close range of the Madonna’s head taken from above and that of the Son seen from the side … continue HERE

8. Brancacci Chapel: construction site that can be visited with the frescoes at eye level

Walking on the scaffolding of the Brancacci Chapel restoration site is a bit like going back in time for me. Not that I ever went up there together with the artists who put their hands on those masterpieces but from below, sitting with my legs crossed, I copied those figures in charcoal on paper… continue HERE

When restorations are undertaken, new things are often discovered even on well-known works restored perhaps thirty or forty years earlier. This is exactly what happened during the restoration that had the New Sacristy in Florence as its protagonist…continue HERE

10. The marbles extracted by me in Seravezza finished in the floor of the Florence cathedral
