Aprono al pubblico gli ambienti affrescati dietro il Mosé
Alle spalle della tomba di Giulio II sono custodite preziose opere in affresco realizzate da alcuni stretti collaboratori di Raffaello fra i quali Polidoro da Caravaggio ma non solo.
Tempo fa il nostro Antonio Forcellino ci aveva mostrato in un video che vi ripropongo a seguire le tracce di un arco disegnato e il volto affrescato di un Cristo, proprio nell’ambiente retrostante al complesso monumentale che comprende il Mosé.
Entrando nella Basilica di San Pietro gli sguardi di visitatori e fedeli vengono attratti dalla grandiosa sepoltura che pensai per papa Giulio II della Rovere ma in pochi sanno che ai lati di quel capolavoro, ci sono due piccole porte sempre chiuse al pubblico.
Da lì si accede agli spazi affrescati dell’antisacrestia, della sacrestia e ai resti di una torre medievale. Anche la pavimentazione del Quattrocento in marmi policromi è degna di nota.
La Basilica rappresenta la storia di Roma con la S maiuscola per tutte le importanti testimonianze archeologiche nel sottosuolo, tra cui alcune domus romane, che restaureremo con i fondi del Pnrr entro il 2025».

The rooms behind the Moses are opened to the public
Behind the tomb of Julius II there are precious fresco works created by some of Raphael’s close collaborators including Polidoro da Caravaggio but not only.
