La Scultura del giorno: la Musica di Eugène Delaplanche
La scultura del giorno che vi propongo oggi è la Musica scolpita in marmo bianco di Carrara da Eugène Delaplanche per l’Opera Garnier di Parigi nel 1878.
Delaplanche si mise al lavoro per dar forma a una giovane ragazza priva di vesti, con una fascia in vita che a malapena trattiene il drappo che ne copre parzialmente le gambe.
La ragazza è impegnata a eseguire un brano musicale con il suo violino e ha il volto segnato da un’espressione estatica.
I capelli raccolti i una coda bassa sembrano ondeggiare al ritmo della musica. Sul capo della giovane si nota la corona d’alloro.
La scultura è stata firmata con lo scalpello dall’artista: Delaplanche Eugenio. Eugenio nacque a Belleville in Francia il 28 febbraio del 1836 e fu allievo di Duret.
Nel 1864 riuscì a vincere il Prix de Rome che gli diede la possibilità di venire a studiare nella città eterna dal 1864 fino al 1867, presso la Villa Medici. Nel 1818 poi conquistò la medaglia d’onore.
La sua opera più celebre e riuscita è proprio la Musica, considerata il capolavoro massimo dell’artista. Il naturalismo delle sue sculture e la solida padronanza della tecnica scultorea resero molto apprezzato Delaplanche nell’epoca in cui visse.
Le sue sono sempre sculture eteree, con volti e corpi idealizzati.
La scultura della Musica si trova presso il museo Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek di Copenaghen che fu fondato nel 1888 da Carl Jacobsen, un danaroso birraio amante dell’arte che riuscì a mettere in piedi una delle più grandi e importanti collezioni private del suo tempo.
Al momento la Glyptotek ospita più di 10mila opere fra antiche e moderne, offrendo al pubblico la possibilità di apprezzare capolavori ubicati un un ambiente architettonico impressionante.

The sculpture of the day that I propose to you today is the Music sculpted in white Carrara marble by Eugène Delaplanche for the Opera Garnier in Paris in 1878.
Delaplanche set to work to shape a young girl without clothes, with a sash at the waist that barely held the drape partially covering her legs.
The girl is busy playing a piece of music on her violin and her face is marked by an ecstatic expression.
Her hair pulled back in a low ponytail seems to sway to the beat of the music. The laurel wreath is visible on the head of the young woman.
The sculpture was signed with the chisel by the artist: Delaplanche Eugenio. He was born in Belleville in France on February 28, 1836 and was a pupil of Duret.
In 1864 he managed to win the Prix de Rome which gave him the opportunity to come and study in the eternal city from 1864 until 1867, at the Villa Medici. In 1818 he then won the medal of honour.
His most famous and successful work is his Music, considered the artist’s greatest masterpiece. The naturalism of his sculptures and the solid mastery of the sculptural technique made Delaplanche highly appreciated in the era in which he lived.
His sculptures are always ethereal, with idealized faces and bodies.
The Music sculpture is located in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum in Copenhagen which was founded in 1888 by Carl Jacobsen, a wealthy art-loving brewer who managed to set up one of the largest and most important private collections of his time.
Currently, the Glyptotek houses more than 10,000 ancient and modern works, offering the public the opportunity to appreciate masterpieces located in an impressive architectural environment.
