Presso l’Archivio di Stato di Firenze è stato ritrovato un importante documento inedito che ha a che fare con la Congiura dei Pazzi.

La congiura fu il complotto messo in piedi con il tentativo di rovesciare l’egemonia medicea, messo in atto domenica 26 aprile del 1478 nel duomo di Firenze, nel momento del sollevamento dell’ostia (ve ne ho parlato nel dettaglio QUA)

Il documento è stato rinvenuto dallo storico Marcello Simonetta e verrà presentato ed esposto mercoledì 3 maggio, alle ore 11.30.

Si tratta della confessione di Antonio Maffei da Volterra, il sicario scelto per assassinare Lorenzo de’ Medici. Quella confessione fu fatta dallo stesso dopo il suo arresto seguì all’arresto, avvenuto il 3 maggio 1478 presso la Badia fiorentina, dove il volterrano si era rifugiato dopo aver fallito nel tentativo di pugnalare Lorenzo.

Maffei ricostruisce con precisione le dinamiche e antefatti della congiura, svelando le circostanze del suo coinvolgimento, l’incontro a Firenze con i Pazzi, le sue perplessità sulla conduzione caotica dell’impresa e, quindi, il piano per il suo concretizzarsi e la lista delle forze militari messe in campo.

Durante la messa dell’ultima domenica di Pasqua, Giuliano fu pugnalato a morte da Francesco de’ Pazzi. Lorenzo il Magnifico fu leggermente dal Maffei e sopravvisse rinchiudendosi nella Sagrestia del duomo.

Ne seguì una spietata repressione dei congiurati. Maffei si diede alla fuga e trovò rifugio presso la Badia fiorentina, dove fu arrestato il 3 maggio. Contrariamente a quanto ritenuto fino a oggi, però, non fu subito giustiziato, ma fu sottoposto a un duro interrogatorio e costretto a redigere la confessione che oggi Simonetta ha riportato alla luce dopo oltre cinque secoli.

Per ricordare la Congiura dei Pazzi, mercoledì 26 aprile alle 17:30, nel giorno del suo anniversario, MUS.E presenta un evento speciale che intreccia il teatro e la storia: la lettura teatralizzata, all’interno del Museo di Palazzo Vecchio, del documento rinvenuto, a cura di Andrea Verga, offrirà infatti al pubblico l’occasione di tornare indietro nel tempo, ripercorrendo ragioni e pensieri del suo autore; a essa si accompagnerà la riflessione dello storico Marcello Simonetta.

An unpublished document on the Pazzi Conspiracy has been found

An important unpublished document that has to do with the Pazzi conspiracy has been found in the State Archives of Florence.

The conspiracy was the conspiracy set up with the attempt to overthrow the Medici hegemony, implemented on Sunday 26 April 1478 in the cathedral of Florence, at the moment of the lifting of the wafer (I told you about it in detail HERE)

The document was found by the historian Marcello Simonetta and will be presented and exhibited on Wednesday 3 May, at 11.30.

This is the confession of Antonio Maffei da Volterra, the assassin chosen to assassinate Lorenzo de’ Medici. That confession was made by the same after his arrest followed his arrest, which took place on May 3, 1478 at the Florentine Badia, where the Volterran had taken refuge after having failed in an attempt to stab Lorenzo.

Maffei accurately reconstructs the dynamics and background of the conspiracy, revealing the circumstances of his involvement, the meeting in Florence with the Pazzis, his perplexities about the chaotic management of the enterprise and, therefore, the plan for its realization and the list of military forces deployed.

During mass on the last Easter Sunday, Giuliano was stabbed to death by Francesco de’ Pazzi. Lorenzo the Magnificent was lightly by Maffei and survived by locking himself up in the Sacristy of the cathedral.

A ruthless repression of the conspirators ensued. Maffei fled and found refuge in the Badia Fiorentina, where he was arrested on 3 May. Contrary to what was believed up to now, however, he was not immediately executed, but was subjected to harsh interrogation and forced to write the confession that Simonetta has brought to light today after more than five centuries.

To commemorate the Pazzi Conspiracy, Wednesday 26 April at 5.30 pm, on its anniversary day, MUS.E presents a special event that intertwines theater and history: the dramatized reading, inside the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio, of the document found, edited by Andrea Verga, will in fact offer the public the opportunity to go back in time, retracing the reasons and thoughts of its author; it will be accompanied by the reflection of the historian Marcello Simonetta.
