Casa Buonarroti: in restauro l’Epifania del Condivi dipinta su mio disegno
In concomitanza con il restauro in corso del mio cartone dell’Epifania conservato presso il British Museum, verrà sottoposto a un importante intervento conservativo anche il dipinto su tavola che realizzò Ascanio Condivi seguendo il mio disegno.
Il cartone originale lo realizzai proprio per far dipingere quell’opera su tavola al mio biografo, abile con la penna, un po’ meno con i pennelli. E’ formato da ventisei fogli di carta fatta di cotone, canapa e lino. I bordi dei fogli sono stati prima sovrapposti e poi incollati assieme con la colla di farina per creare un cartone di 2,32 metri per 1,65.
La tavola del Condivi, che misura 2,32 metri in altezza per 16,5 in larghezza, è stata accuratamente rimossa dalla sua abituale collocazione a Casa Buonarroti per essere restaurata grazie al generoso contributo economico elargito dal British Museum.
Forse la tavola partirà poi alla volta di Londra per l’esposizione prevista al termine del restauro del mio cartone originale? Chissà, staremo a vedere.

Casa Buonarroti: the Epiphany of Condivi painted on my drawing is being restored
In conjunction with the ongoing restoration of my cartoon of the Epiphany conserved at the British Museum, the painting on wood that Ascanio Condivi created following my design will also undergo an important conservation intervention.
I made the original cartoon precisely to have that work painted on wood by my biographer, skilled with the pen, a little less with the brushes. It consists of twenty-six sheets of paper made of cotton, hemp and linen. The edges of the sheets were first overlapped and then glued together with flour glue to create a cardboard measuring 2.32 meters by 1.65.
The Condivi panel, which measures 2.32 meters in height by 16.5 in width, was carefully removed from its usual location in Casa Buonarroti to be restored thanks to the generous financial contribution made by the British Museum.
Perhaps the table will then leave for London for the exhibition scheduled at the end of the restoration of my original cartoon? Who knows, we’ll see.
