Le ginocchia del Mosè
Sulle varie interpretazioni date al mio Mosè ci si potrebbe scrivere un intero libro di parecchie pagine. C’è chi ha cercato a ritroso nel tempo sculture dalle quali potrei aver tratto ispirazione e chi invece ha preferito analizzare il suo sguardo fiero e fermo.
Atri ancora disquisiscono sul perché a un certo punto abbia deciso di voltarlo verso l’entrata della chiesa sostenendo tesi a volte condivisibili mentre altre no. Insomma, a distanza di parecchi secoli, il Mosè pare suscitare inquietudine in tutti coloro che vorrebbero saperne un po’ di più a riguardo.
C’è anche chi m’ha detto –bhe, peccato per quel ginocchio più piccolo–. Mica è stata un’impresa da poco voltare tutta la figura quando oramai gran parte era già stata scolpita. Mancava materiale da modellare: oramai l’avevo scalpellato via. E voi cari spettatori, vi rendete conto che le ginocchia non sono uguali perché lo avete letto da qualche parte, visto in qualche filmato o chissà dove altrimenti nemmeno ci fareste caso.
Chi si trova dinnanzi al mio Mosè ha lo sguardo attratto dal panneggio centrale fra le due gambe e le ginocchia passano in secondo piano, vengono viste dopo. E’ un effetto che ho creato volutamente per mascherare le differenze.

Moses’ knees
On the various interpretations given to my Moses one could write a whole book of several pages. There are those who have sought backwards sculptures from which I could have drawn inspiration and those who have preferred to analyze his proud and steady gaze. In short, after several centuries, Moses seems to arouse restlessness in all those who would like to know a little more about it.
There are those who told me – well, shame about that smaller knee -. Mica has been a company that has recently turned the whole figure when much of it had already been carved. There was no modeling material: now I had chiseled away. And you dear spectators, you realize that your knees are not the same because you have read it somewhere, seen in some movie or who knows where, otherwise you would not even notice. Whoever is in front of the Moses has the look attracted by the central drapery between the two legs and the knees go into the background, they are seen later. It is an effect that I have deliberately created to mask the differences.
