Questa foto che vedete me l’ha spedita Giorgio Lamberto qualche giorno fa. La conoscevo  già: sapete, di scatti dell’epoca non ce ne sono molti in giro. Da qualche parte me l’ero pure salvata ma, fra tutte le foto ammucchiate alla rinfusa che c’ho, trovarla non sarebbe stato semplice.

In primo piano c’è un’opera che tanto amo:  il Perseo del Cellini ma è il secondo piano a destare il maggior interesse in questo caso. Il posto del David è vacante: già era partito alla volta della Galleria dell’Accademia.

Lo scatto può essere datato fra l’agosto del 1873 e il 1910, quando finalmente sul’arengario di Palazzo Vecchio venne posizionata la copia scolpita da Arrighetti.

Insomma, una foto preziosa che testimonia un’epoca passata anteriore all’avvento delle due Guerre Mondiali.

Giorgio Lamberto sent me this photo a few days ago. I already knew her: you know, there are not many shots of the time around. I had saved myself somewhere but, of all the bulk photos I have, finding it would not have been easy.

In the foreground there is a work that I love so much: Cellini’s Perseus but it is the second floor that arouses the most interest in this case. The place of the David is vacant: it had already left for the Galleria dell’Accademia.

The shot can be dated between August 1873 and 1910, when the copy sculpted by Arrighetti was finally placed on the Palazzo Vecchio.

In short, a precious photo that bears witness to an era that passed before the advent of the two World Wars.
