Il Tabernacolo di Santa Rosa a Firenze torna ad essere visibile dopo l’intervento di restauro che l’ha interessato nell’ultimo periodo.

Intervento divenuto necessario per restituirgli il decoro e la bellezza che con il tempo erano andate svanendo sotto depositi incoerenti e particellato atmosferico.

I vecchi ritocchi con il tempo si erano alterati e sulla superficie pittorica dell’affresco strappato erano presenti abrasioni e una sostanza lucida che ne alterava l’aspetto originario.

I lavori sono stati seguiti e diretti dai tecnici del Servizio Belle Arti del Comune di Firenze in veste di ente proprietario del tabernacolo, sotto l’Alta Sorveglianza della Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la Città Metropolitana di Firenze e le Province di Pistoia e Prato.

L’affresco è stato restaurato da materialmente da Bartolomeo Ciccone mentre l’intervento sulla cornice lapidea è stato curato da Stefano Landi.

Il restauro del Torrino di Santa Rosa è stato reso possibile grazie al generoso contributo di Friends of Florence, attraverso il dono del Florence Chapter, che ha già restaurato sette Tabernacoli in Oltrarno, guidato dalle Co-Chair Allison Gilligan e Kate Collins Manetti e Diana Richman Chairman onorario.

Il Comitato per il Decoro e il Restauro dei Tabernacoli, che da anni si prende cura di questi manufatti in tutta Firenze, ha effettuato parte delle operazioni necessarie allo svolgimento dei lavori, coadiuvato dell’architetto Moreno Perini.

Il Tabernacolo è ubicato nei pressi dell’omonimo Torrino, a nord della porta di San Frediano.

All’interno del tabernacolo in pietra forte, costruito nel 1856 su progetto dell’architetto Felice Franciolini, si trova un affresco degli inizi del XVI secolo, raffigurante la Pietà con la Madonna e i santi Giovanni Evangelista e Maria Maddalena, attribuito a Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.

A ridosso delle mura, infatti, esisteva un piccolo oratorio dedicato a Santa Rosa, annesso ad un antico convento detto di San Guglielmo, entrambi demoliti nel 1743.

Del fabbricato restò in piedi solo il tabernacolo che nel 1856 il governo di Toscana fece ricostruire attorno all’affresco esistente, col consenso della famiglia Antinori, proprietaria dell’oratorio demolito.

L’opera era stata precedentemente oggetto di restauro nel 1998, grazie a un finanziamento dei marchesi Antinori. Oggetto dell’intervento di restauro appena finito sono stati sia l’affresco che la cornice lapidea che lo circonda.

Ghirlandaio’s Tabernacle of Santa Rosa restored

The Tabernacle of Santa Rosa in Florence is once again visible after the restoration that has seen it as a protagonist in the last period.

Intervention that became necessary to restore the decorum and beauty that over time had faded under incoherent deposits and atmospheric particles.

Over time, the old retouching had altered and on the pictorial surface of the torn fresco there were abrasions and a shiny substance that altered its original appearance.

The works were followed and directed by the technicians of the Fine Arts Service of the Municipality of Florence as the body that owns the tabernacle, under the High Supervision of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Florence and the Provinces of Pistoia and Prato .

The fresco was physically restored by Bartolomeo Ciccone while the intervention on the stone frame was curated by Stefano Landi.

The restoration of the Torrino di Santa Rosa was made possible thanks to the generous contribution of Friends of Florence, through the gift of the Florence Chapter, which has already restored seven Tabernacles in the Oltrarno, led by Co-Chairs Allison Gilligan and Kate Collins Manetti and Diana Richman Honorary Chairman.

The Committee for the Decoration and Restoration of the Tabernacles, which has been taking care of these artifacts throughout Florence for years, carried out part of the operations necessary to carry out the work, assisted by the architect Moreno Perini.

The Tabernacle is located near the Torrino of the same name, north of the San Frediano gate.

Inside the pietra forte tabernacle, built in 1856 to a design by the architect Felice Franciolini, there is a fresco from the early 16th century, depicting the Pietà with the Madonna and Saints John the Evangelist and Mary Magdalene, attributed to Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.

Behind the walls, in fact, there was a small oratory dedicated to Santa Rosa, annexed to an ancient convent called San Guglielmo, both demolished in 1743.

Of the building, only the tabernacle remained standing, which in 1856 the Tuscan government had rebuilt around the existing fresco, with the consent of the Antinori family, owner of the demolished oratory.

The work had previously been restored in 1998, thanks to a loan from the Antinori marquises. The object of the recently completed restoration work was both the fresco and the stone frame that surrounds it.
