Molti credono che la grazia di qualcuno risieda nei suoi ornamenti: nelle perle, nei gioielli, nelle vesti raffinate, nei vezzi e nelle carezze studiate per attrarre lo sguardo. Si ammirano i lezi, le eleganze ricercate, le feste, le ricchezze che adornano il corpo e accompagnano i movimenti.

Eppure chi potrebbe davvero fermarsi a osservare tali artifici quando si trova dinanzi a una presenza capace di manifestare una bellezza quasi divina?

Gli atteggiamenti divini cancellano l’opera dell’uomo

Quando qualcuno possiede negli occhi e nei gesti una grazia superiore, ogni ornamento diventa secondario. Gli abiti, le perle e l’oro non attirano più l’attenzione, perché l’animo resta rapito da qualcosa di più alto.

I suoi atteggiamenti sembrano trascendere il lavoro umano. L’arte dell’orefice, la pazienza dell’artigiano, la ricchezza dei materiali preziosi perdono importanza davanti a una bellezza che non può essere costruita né acquistata.

Ciò che nasce dalla mano dell’uomo viene oscurato da ciò che la natura e il cielo hanno saputo creare.

Oro e argento ricevono luce da lei

Non sono l’oro e l’argento a donare splendore. Accade il contrario.

Quelle stesse materie preziose, che gli uomini considerano simbolo di valore e magnificenza, sembrano ricevere da lei una luce nuova. Il loro fulgore si accende e si moltiplica soltanto perché si trovano accanto a una presenza tanto luminosa.

L’oro brilla di più, l’argento risplende maggiormente, ma non per virtù propria: essi riflettono la luce di chi li indossa.

Gli occhi sono la fonte di ogni splendore

La verità che desideravo esprimere in questi versi è racchiusa negli occhi.

Ogni gemma, per quanto rara e preziosa, appare più luminosa quando viene illuminata dal loro sguardo. La sua bellezza non deriva più dalla natura della pietra, dalla sua purezza o dal suo valore, ma dalla luce che riceve.

Gli occhi diventano così il centro della visione amorosa: una fonte capace di trasformare la realtà e di accrescere il pregio di tutto ciò che li circonda.

La bellezza interiore vale più delle ricchezze

In questo madrigale ho voluto celebrare una bellezza che supera gli ornamenti esteriori. Perle, gioielli, oro e argento rappresentano soltanto un contorno.

La vera grandezza risiede nella luce che emana dalla persona stessa, nella nobiltà degli sguardi e nella grazia dei gesti. Quando questa luce è autentica, ogni ricchezza materiale diventa un semplice riflesso.

E così accade che le gemme brillino più del consueto, che l’oro sembri più splendente e che ogni ornamento acquisti valore soltanto grazie alla presenza di chi lo porta. Non è la preziosità delle cose a rendere grande la qualcuno ma è la sua virtù e con i suoi occhi, a rendere preziose tutte le cose.

chi potria ma’ vederle
cogli atti suo divin l’uman lavoro,
ove l’argento e l’oro
da le’ riceve o duplica suo luce?
Ogni gemma più luce
dagli occhi suo che da propia virtute.

True beauty does not come from adornments

Many believe that someone’s grace lies in their adornments: in pearls, jewels, refined clothing, and the charms and caresses designed to attract the eye. They admire the affectations, the refined elegance, the celebrations, and the riches that adorn the body and accompany the movements.

Yet who could truly stop to observe such artifices when faced with a presence capable of manifesting an almost divine beauty?

Divine gestures obliterate the work of man

When someone possesses a superior grace in their eyes and gestures, all adornment becomes secondary. The clothes, pearls, and gold no longer attract attention, because the soul is captivated by something higher.

Their gestures seem to transcend human labor. The art of the goldsmith, the patience of the craftsman, the richness of precious materials lose importance before a beauty that cannot be constructed or purchased.

What is born from the hand of man is obscured by what nature and heaven have created.

Gold and silver receive light from her

It is not gold and silver that bestow splendor. The opposite happens.

Those same precious materials, which men consider symbols of value and magnificence, seem to receive a new light from her. Their brilliance is ignited and multiplied simply because they are found next to such a luminous presence.

Gold shines brighter, silver shines more, but not by their own virtue: they reflect the light of those who wear them.

The eyes are the source of all splendor

The truth I wished to express in these verses is contained in the eyes.

Every gem, however rare and precious, appears more luminous when illuminated by their gaze. Its beauty no longer comes from the nature of the stone, its purity, or its value, but from the light it receives.

The eyes thus become the center of amorous vision: a source capable of transforming reality and enhancing the value of everything around them.

Inner beauty is worth more than riches

In this madrigal, I wanted to celebrate a beauty that surpasses external adornments. Pearls, jewels, gold, and silver are merely a garnish.

True greatness lies in the light that emanates from the person themselves, in the nobility of their gaze and the grace of their gestures. When this light is authentic, all material wealth becomes a mere reflection.

And so it happens that gems shine more brightly than usual, gold seems more lustrous, and every ornament acquires value only through the presence of its wearer. It is not the preciousness of things that makes someone great, but rather their virtue, and with their eyes, that makes all things precious.
