Il Tondo Doni è l’unica opera mia esposta permanentemente alla Galleria degli Uffizi e, ogni anno, vede sfilare davanti a se migliaia di persone provenienti da ogni angolo del mondo, attraverso un vetro anti-proiettili.

Quello che potete osservare a seguire è un disegno che realizzai per studiare la testa della Vergine della Sacra Famiglia. Si tratta di uno studio assai noto che nel 2009 uscì da Casa Buonarroti per essere esposto a Belgrado, assieme a un disegno che tracciai per la gamba del Bambino.

Lo studio per la testa della Vergine appartiene alla collezione di Casa Buonarroti e potreste anche avere la fortuna di vederlo prima o poi con i vostri occhi. Tutti i disegni di Casa Buonarroti, a partire dal 1859, vennero sistemati all’interno di bacheche o appesi alle pareti in cornici ma venne deciso all’unanimità che quella permanente esposizione fosse troppo azzardata per la loro corretta conservazione.

Nel 1960 tutti i disegni vennero trasferiti preso il Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe degli Uffizi per essere sottoposti a un lungo e attento restauro. Quindici anni dopo fecero ritorno in via Ghibellina e, da allora in poi, vengono esposti solo in piccoli nuclei a rotazione in una sala appositamente pensata per lo scopo in condizioni di luce e termo igrometriche ideali per quelle carte così fragili e preziose.

Study for the Tondo Doni

The Tondo Doni is the only work of mine permanently exhibited at the Uffizi Gallery and, every year, it sees thousands of people coming from every corner of the world pass by in front of them, through an anti-bullet glass.

What you can observe below is a drawing I made to study the head of the Virgin of the Holy Family. This is a well-known study that, in 2009, came out of Casa Buonarroti to be exhibited in Belgrade, along with a drawing I drew for the Child’s leg.

The study for the head of the Virgin belongs to the Casa Buonarroti collection and you might even be lucky enough to see it sooner or later with your own eyes. All the drawings of Casa Buonarroti, starting from 1859, were placed inside notice boards or hung on the walls in frames but it was unanimously decided that the permanent exhibition was too risky for their correct preservation.

In 1960 all the drawings were transferred to the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Uffizi to be subjected to a long and careful restoration. Fifteen years later they returned to via Ghibellina and, from then on, they were exposed only in small rotating cores in a room specially designed for the purpose in ideal light and thermo hygrometric conditions for those fragile and precious papers.
