La scultura che raffigura Adamo, scolpita da Stoldo Lorenzi, si trova nella Sala del Gonfalone del Castello Sforzesco.

Lorenzi fu uno scultore fiorentino che per stile si avvicinava a quello del Giambologna soprattutto nella capacità di far assumere alle sue opere pose naturali e nel modellato delle figure slanciate.

Per aumentare la base d’appoggio e dunque distribuire meglio i pesi dell’opera a terra, Lorenzi si premurò di scolpire un broncone dietro la gamba destra di Adamo.

Osservate la posa del corpo: non vi ricorda a tratti il mio David? Certo, il braccio sinistro è un po’ più basso rispetto a quello del mio gigante ma la mano è chiusa e trattiene una mela come quella del David si chiude su un capo della fionda.

Anche il capo è girato nella medesima direzione così come scolpì la stessa gamba destra dritta mentre l’altra leggermente piegata.

Stoldo Lorenzi nacque a Settignano, lo stesso paese in cui rimasi fino a tre anni, cresciuto dalla balia come s’usava ai miei tempi. Affinò l’arte della scultura in quel di Firenze, seguendo le orme del Giambologna e del Tribolo che aveva avuto modo di lavorare con me.

Oltre a lavorare il marmo con una buona padronanza degli attrezzi del mestiere, fu anche un bravo bronzista. E’ sua la stupenda Fontana del Nettuno del Giardini di Boboli, realizzata tra il 1565 e il 5568.

La scultura di Adamo di Lorenzi, cugino del più noto Giovanni Battista Lorenzi, fu sottoposta a un intervento di restauro nel 2017 e un tempo era collocata nella facciata della chiesa di Santa Maria a San Celso, ubicata a Milano in corso Italia al civico 37.

Per la stessa chiesa, oltre a scolpire l’Adamo tra il 1573 e il 1575, realizzò anche Eva, l’Angelo Annunziante e la Vergine Annunziata.

Quando Adamo fu rimosso dalla facciata, fu sostituito con una copia in marmo.

L’opera originale presenta delle mancanze come le due dita del piede sinistro e ha delle integrazioni.

Stoldo Lorenzi was born in Settignano, the same town where I remained until I was three years old, raised by a wet nurse as was the custom in my time. He refined the art of sculpture in Florence, following in the footsteps of Giambologna and Tribolo who had had the opportunity to work with me.
