Dopo nove mesi di lavori, è giunto al termine il restauro che ha interessato sia il Baldacchino del Bernini che la Cattedra.

Per la data del 27 ottobre saranno rimossi i ponteggi e le telature che hanno celato alla vista i due capolavori. Durante la Messa conclusiva del Sinodo celebrata da Papa Francesco proprio in quella data, ci sarà la presentazione ufficiale dei due restauri ma non solo.

Sarà reso visibile al pubblico l’antico seggio di epoca carolingia abitualmente custodito all’interno Cattedra che un tempo la tradizione pensava fosse appartenuto a San Pietro

Anche il seggio sarà interessato da un restauro che proseguirà fino a novembre.

“Quando c’è un matrimonio in una famiglia – ha detto padre Enzo Fortunato, direttore della Comunicazione della Basilica di San Pietro e sacerdote francescano – si fanno le pulizie in casa e si preparano i vestiti nuovi. È quello che stiamo facendo per la Basilica di San Pietro in vista del Giubileo”.

Tra gli interventi eseguiti all’interno della Basilica di San Pietro c’è anche quello che riguarda la sostituzione dei vetri blindati che collocati a protezione della Pietà Vaticana.

L’ultimo restauro documentato

L’ultimo intervento di restauro eseguito sul Baldacchino risale al 1758.

In quel frangente una squadra di 60 persone, composta da operai e maestranze specializzata lavorò per tre mesi sull’opera

Di tempo dunque ne è trascorso molto da allora e la patina spessa che s’era venuta a depositare sul bronzo e sulle dorature rendeva difficile una corretta lettura dell’opera.

L’ingegner Alberto Capitanucci, responsabile dell’area tecnica della Fabbrica di San Pietro in Vaticano rivela la scoperta di un trattamento di fonderia, realizzato per ottenere un risultato straordinario. Il tendone fu realizzato in legno e rame ma dalle quattro aste torna alla luce un materiale inaspettato: il cuoio.

St. Peter’s Basilica: Bernini’s Baldachin and Chair Restoration Completed

After nine months of work, the restoration of both Bernini’s Baldachin and the Chair has been completed.

By October 27, the scaffolding and canvases that had hidden the two masterpieces from view will be removed. During the final Mass of the Synod celebrated by Pope Francis on that very date, there will be the official presentation of the two restorations, but not only that.

The ancient Carolingian-era chair usually kept inside the Chair, which tradition once thought had belonged to St. Peter, will be made visible to the public

The chair will also be restored and will continue until November.

“When there is a wedding in a family,” said Father Enzo Fortunato, Director of Communications for St. Peter’s Basilica and a Franciscan priest, “the house is cleaned and new clothes are prepared. This is what we are doing for St. Peter’s Basilica in view of the Jubilee”.

Among the interventions carried out inside St. Peter’s Basilica there is also one regarding the replacement of the armored glass that was placed to protect the Vatican Pietà.

The last documented restoration
