La città di Parma celebra il Correggio, al secolo Antonio Allegri, nella ricorrenza dei 500 anni dalla dalla realizzazione del superbo ciclo di affreschi della cupola della basilica di San Giovanni, nell’omonimo monastero benedettino nel cuore della città.

Gli affreschi del celebre artista verranno virtualmente calati dalla cupola per metterli a diretto contatto con i visitatori per consentire di avere una visione privilegiata dei dettagli ma non solo.

Le novità apportate dall’iniziativa Correggio500 sono due.

La prima è rappresentata dalla grandiosa installazione “Il Cielo per un istante in terra”, generata dal progetto fotografico di Lucio Rossi. All’interno del monumentale Refettorio del monastero di San Giovanni il visitatore potrà avere un incontro ravvicinato con le immagini della cupola del Correggio.

Il fotografo Lucio Rossi ha realizzato il fotopiano dell’intera cupola, riproposto nell’installazione.

A precedere le emozionanti immagini di Rossi è una sezione introduttiva di approfondimento storico e artistico, l’ingresso nell’’installazione si inserisce nella più ampia opportunità di scoprire uno dei più importanti monumenti di Parma, il Monastero di San Giovanni con i suoi tre grandiosi chiostri e la Biblioteca monastica che conserva tesori unici al mondo.

Da un monastero maschile, ancora attivo, ad uno femminile, ormai musealizzato: il Monastero di San Paolo, con la celebre Camera della Badessa, altro magnifico lascito del Correggio ed espressione tra le più affascinanti del Rinascimento maturo.

Correggio500 proporrà la realtà aumentata di “Hortus Conclusus 2.0: storia e sviluppo del Monastero di San Paolo”. Un’esperienza immersiva che, partendo dalla Parma di epoca romana, arriverà al nascere del monastero, al suo sviluppo, alla commissione al Correggio per la decorazione pittorica.

Il dialogo tra la badessa e l’artista introduce alle scelte dei temi evocati nella Camera. Attraverso un visore VR MetaQuest il visitatore potrà immergersi e muoversi all’interno dei paesaggi antichi, scoprirne gli sviluppi e vedere le connessioni fra i due monasteri dove l’opera del Correggio diventa protagonista.

Le figure dell’Allegri dai “contorni graziosi e grassi con qualche idea di chiaroscuro” saranno interpretate, avvicinate, ravvivate dal primo progetto multimediale dedicato al pittore e legate attraverso la storia del tempo e della città.

L’obiettivo che si pone l’Assessorato alla Cultura e al Turismo del Comune di Parma è quello di promuovere un suggestivo e coinvolgente percorso divulgativo dal prossimo autunno e fino ai primi mesi del 2025.

Non posso però non dirvi la mia in merito a questa iniziativa e a tutte le altre che prevedono visioni immersive che oramai dilagano a macchia d’olio.

Come già ho avuto occasione di esprimermi in merito in altre circostanze, osservare dal vero un’opera è tutt’altra cosa. Non c’è niente che possa restituire l’emozione di trovarsi faccia a faccia con un capolavoro realizzato dall’artista.

Sebbene queste nuove tecnologie permettono di poter apprezzare le opere nel dettaglio. è pur sempre vero che è come vederle attraverso un filtro e non possono rievocare le sensazioni provate di una reale visione, anche a distanza notevole, di un’opera originale.

La tecnologia ha fatto passi da gigante negli ultimi anni, su questo non ci piove. Niente però può sostituire ciò che si prova contemplando un’opera originale, poterne apprezzare le sfumature, ripercorrerne le linee una a una immaginandosi l’artista mentre le tracciava.

L’esperienza virtuale può essere divertente ma a mio avviso non è un modo per avvicinare chi poco frequenta l’arte alle opere. E’ un palliativo spesso costoso e poco efficace.

Parma: 500 years of Correggio’s frescoes for the dome of the cathedral are celebrated

The city of Parma celebrates Correggio, born Antonio Allegri, on the 500th anniversary of the creation of the superb cycle of frescoes in the dome of the Basilica of San Giovanni, in the Benedictine monastery of the same name in the heart of the city.

The famous artist’s frescoes will be virtually lowered from the dome to put them in direct contact with visitors to allow them to have a privileged view of the details but not only.

There are two innovations brought about by the Correggio500 initiative.

The first is represented by the grandiose installation “The Sky for an instant on earth”, generated by the photographic project of Lucio Rossi. Inside the monumental Refectory of the monastery of San Giovanni the visitor will be able to have a close encounter with the images of Correggio’s dome.

From a male monastery, still active, to a female one, now a museum: the Monastery of San Paolo, with the famous Chamber of the Abbess, another magnificent legacy of Correggio and one of the most fascinating expressions of the mature Renaissance.

Correggio500 will propose the augmented reality of “Hortus Conclusus 2.0: history and development of the Monastery of San Paolo”. An immersive experience which, starting from Roman era Parma, will arrive at the birth of the monastery, its development, the commission to Correggio for the pictorial decoration.

The dialogue between the abbess and the artist introduces the choices of themes evoked in the Chamber. Through a VR MetaQuest viewer, the visitor will be able to immerse himself and move within the ancient landscapes, discover their developments and see the connections between the two monasteries where Correggio’s work becomes the protagonist.

Allegri’s figures with “graceful and fat contours with some idea of ​​chiaroscuro” will be interpreted, brought closer, enlivened by the first multimedia project dedicated to the painter and linked through the history of time and of the city.

The objective set by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Parma is to promote an evocative and engaging information journey from next autumn until the first months of 2025.

However, I cannot help but tell you my opinion on this initiative and all the others that involve immersive visions that are now spreading like wildfire.

As I have already had the opportunity to express myself on the matter in other circumstances, observing a work from life is a completely different thing. There is nothing that can restore the emotion of being face to face with a masterpiece created by the artist.

Although these new technologies allow us to appreciate the works in detail. it is still true that it is like seeing them through a filter and they cannot evoke the sensations of a real vision, even from a considerable distance, of an original work.

Technology has made great strides in recent years, there’s no doubt about this. However, nothing can replace what you feel when contemplating an original work, being able to appreciate its nuances, retracing its lines one by one, imagining the artist as he traced them.

The virtual experience can be fun but in my opinion it is not a way to bring those who don’t frequent art closer to the works. It is an often expensive and ineffective palliative.
