Colonna Traiana: il mio progetto per la sistemazione dell’area
Sapete che mi feci carico di sistemare l’area adiacente alla Colonna Traiana?
Ebbene sì, è una di quelle storie poco note che oggi ho proprio voglia di raccontarvi. Mi siedo comodo e inizio a narrarvi pure questa vicenda mentre la gatta mi s’è accovacciata sulle gambe e ronfa che è una meraviglia.
Scartabellando fra gli atti scritti durante la riunione del Consiglio comunale di Roma che si svolse il 27 agosto del 1558, non solo viene fuori che avevo presentato un bel progetto per dare una degna sistemazione all’area che comprende la Colonna Traiana ma era stato approvato proprio in quella occasione.
Gli scavi fatti durante il papato di Paolo III Farnese per far emergere la base dell’antico monumento, avevano messo a soqquadro l’intera area ed era necessario tornare a dargli un aspetto decente.
Il progetto non mi era stato richiesto da nessuno ma l’avevo proposto da solo, di mia spontanea volontà. Non era possibile continuare a vedere quell’area così disastrata senza tentare di metterla un po’ a posto.
In fondo abitavo a pochissima distanza dal Foro di Traiano, a Macel de’ Corvi.
Sebbene l’assemblea approvò il mio progetto, alla fine non gli fu dato nessun seguito: un vero peccato.

Trajan’s Column: my project for the arrangement of the area
Do you know that I took it upon myself to arrange the area adjacent to Trajan’s Column?
Well yes, it’s one of those little-known stories that I really want to tell you today. I sit comfortably and begin to tell you this story while the cat squats on my legs and purrs which is wonderful.
Browsing through the documents written during the meeting of the Rome City Council which took place on 27 August 1558, not only does it emerge that I had presented a beautiful project to give a worthy arrangement to the area that includes Trajan’s Column but it had been approved precisely in that occasion.
The excavations carried out during the papacy of Paul III Farnese to reveal the base of the ancient monument had turned the entire area upside down and it was necessary to give it a decent look again.
The project had not been requested of me by anyone but I had proposed it on my own, of my own free will. It was not possible to continue to see that area in such a state of disaster without trying to fix it a little.
After all, I lived a very short distance from Trajan’s Forum, in Macel de’ Corvi.
Although the assembly approved my project, in the end it was not followed up on: a real shame.
