A Villa Farnesina a Roma è stato avviato il cantiere di restauro che coinvolge il Trionfo di Galatea di Raffaello, la Sala delle Nozze di Alessandro e Roxane del Sodoma, al secolo Giovanni Antonio Bazzi e il Polifemo di Sebastiano del Piombo. 

Villa Farnesina, sede dell‘Accademia dei Lincei e antica residenza romana del banchiere e raffinato mecenate Agostino Chigi, ospiterà il cantiere di restauro fino al prossimo gennaio 2023. L’intervento sarà sostenuto economicamente da IGT e verrà realizzato da Antonio Forcellino che recentemente si occupato del restauro sulle Sibille e Profeti di Santa Maria della Pace, realizzato da Raffaello nello stesso periodo in cui lavorava alla Galatea.

Il restauro servirà per alleggerire gli affreschi dalle impurità che nel corso dei secoli si sono depositate sulla loro superficie ma sarà anche l’occasione per verificare l’adesione degli intonaci e controllare la presenza di distacchi dal muro provvedendo poi al successivo consolidamento.

I lavori sono condotti sotto la direzione dal Conservatore della Farnesina, Virginia Lapenta e vigilati dalla Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma.

Il cantiere visitabile gratuitamente con visite guidate

Tutte le seconde domeniche del mese, da ottobre 2022 fino a gennaio 2023, sarà possibile prenotare l’ingresso gratuito alla Villa Farnesina per massimo due persone fino a esaurimento posti per partecipare alle visite guidate del cantiere alle ore 12.30, alle ore 15 e alle ore 16.

Le visite guidate saranno proposte dall’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei grazie al sostegno di IGT mentre le visite delle ore 12,00 verranno condotte da Antonio Forcellino, responsabile dei restauri. Raphael’s Galatea: the restoration in the open works

At Villa Farnesina in Rome, the restoration work involving Raphael’s Triumph of Galatea has been started, the Hall of the Marriage of Alessandro and Roxane del Sodoma, born Giovanni Antonio Bazzi and the Polyphemus by Sebastiano del Piombo.

Villa Farnesina, seat of the Accademia dei Lincei and ancient Roman residence of the banker and intellectual Agostino Chigi, a refined patron, will host the restoration site until next January. The intervention will be supported by IGT and will be carried out by Antonio Forcellino who recently also carried out the restoration of the Sibyls and Prophets of Santa Maria della Pace, carried out by Raphael in the same period he was working at Galatea.

The restoration will serve to lighten the frescoes from the impurities that have deposited on their surface over the centuries. It will also be an opportunity to check the adhesion of the plasters and possibly provide for the restoration and to check for detachments from the wall.

The works are under the direction of the Conservator of the Farnesina, Virginia Lapenta and supervised by the Special Superintendence of Rome.

The site can be visited for free with guided tours

Every second Sunday of the month, from October 2022 until January 2023, it will be possible to book free admission to the Villa Farnesina for up to two people subject to availability to participate in the guided tours of the construction site at 12.30, at 15 and at 16.

The guided tours will be conducted by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei thanks to the support of IGT, while the visits at 12.00 will be conducted by Antonio Forcellino, responsible for the restorations. Reservation is mandatory and you can do it directly at this email address farnesina2@lincei.it
