Giubileo 2025: ecco quali saranno le uniche cinque porte giubilari
In occasione del Giubileo 2025 saranno solo cinque le porte Sante che verranno aperte, per esplicito ordine di papa Francesco.
Il Pontefice infatti ha deciso che per l’Anno Santo 2025 che sta per iniziare, verranno spalancate solo quelle delle quattro basiliche papali principali di Roma più una porta presente in un carcere.
La Porta Santa della Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano sarà quella che, una volta aperta dal papa il 24 dicembre del 2024, inaugurerà l’inizio del Giubileo ordinario.
La domenica successiva, il 29 dicembre 2024, Papa Francesco aprirà la Porta Santa di San Giovanni in Laterano che oltretutto, 9 novembre di quest’anno, ha celebrato i 1700 anni della dedicazione.
Il 1° gennaio 2025, in occasione della Solennità di Maria Santissima Madre di Dio, sarà aperta la Porta Santa della Basilica papale di Santa Maria Maggiore.
Infine, domenica 5 gennaio sarà il turno della Porta Santa della Basilica papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura.
La motivazione di questa scelta
Questa decisione si basa su precise indicazioni contenute nella bolla papale che ha indetto il Giubileo che mira a sottolineare l’importanza e l’unicità delle quattro basiliche papali.
L’indulgenza giubilare è strettamente legata alle Porte Sante e rappresenta un segno concreto del perdono di Dio. Per ottenerla, è necessario partecipare al sacramento della Penitenza e compiere opere di carità.
La scelta di limitare l’apertura delle Porte Sante ha diverse motivazioni. La pratica di aprire le Porte Sante nelle quattro basiliche papali è una tradizione secolare, risalente al primo Giubileo del 1300.
Le quattro basiliche rappresentano i pilastri della Chiesa a Roma e nel mondo. Aprire le loro Porte Sante sottolinea l’universalità della Chiesa e l’importanza di Roma come centro della cristianità. Limitando il numero delle Porte Sante, il Papa vuole riportare l’attenzione sul significato più profondo del Giubileo, ovvero la conversione del cuore e la pratica delle opere di misericordia.
Anche se non tutte le chiese avranno una Porta Santa, i fedeli possono comunque vivere l’Anno Santo partecipando alle celebrazioni nelle basiliche papali o nelle loro chiese locali, accogliendo lo spirito del Giubileo e il desiderio di rinnovamento spirituale.

On the occasion of the Jubilee 2025, only five Holy Doors will be opened, by explicit order of Pope Francis.
In fact, the Pontiff has decided that for the Holy Year 2025 that is about to begin, only those of the four main papal basilicas in Rome will be opened, plus a door in a prison.
The Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican will be the one that, once opened by the Pope on December 24, 2024, will inaugurate the beginning of the ordinary Jubilee.
The following Sunday, December 29, 2024, Pope Francis will open the Holy Door of St. John Lateran, which, moreover, on November 9 of this year, celebrated the 1700th anniversary of its dedication.
On January 1, 2025, on the Solemnity of Mary Most Holy Mother of God, the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore will be opened.
Finally, on Sunday, January 5, it will be the turn of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.
The reason for this choice
This decision is based on precise indications contained in the papal bull that announced the Jubilee, which aims to underline the importance and uniqueness of the four papal basilicas.
The Jubilee indulgence is closely linked to the Holy Doors and represents a concrete sign of God’s forgiveness. To obtain it, it is necessary to participate in the sacrament of Penance and perform works of charity.
The choice to limit the opening of the Holy Doors has several motivations. The practice of opening the Holy Doors in the four papal basilicas is a centuries-old tradition, dating back to the first Jubilee in 1300.
The four basilicas represent the pillars of the Church in Rome and in the world. Opening their Holy Doors emphasizes the universality of the Church and the importance of Rome as the center of Christianity. By limiting the number of Holy Doors, the Pope wants to bring attention to the deeper meaning of the Jubilee, namely the conversion of the heart and the practice of works of mercy.
Even if not all churches will have a Holy Door, the faithful can still experience the Holy Year by participating in the celebrations in the papal basilicas or in their local churches, welcoming the spirit of the Jubilee and the desire for spiritual renewal.
