Terminato il restauro della Pietà di Dupré a Siena
È giunto al termine il restauro della Pietà di Giovanni Duprè che è stato eseguito materialmente da Stefano Landi e sostenuto economicamente da mecenati e istituzioni culturali.
L’opera fu realizzata dello scultore senese Dupré nel 1862, su commissione di Alessandro Bichi Ruspoli. La sua iconografia fu rivoluzionaria e diversa da tutte le precedenti. L’artista mise corpo e anima per realizzare ciò che aveva in mente e finì stremato ammalandosi.
Il restauro è stato patrocinato dalla Contrada dell’Onda e dall’Associazione Culturale Policarpo Bandini ed è stato presentato al pubblico con la benedizione del cardinale Paolo Agusto Lojudice al camposanto monumentale della Misericordia dove l’opera è ubicata.
Giovanni Dupré, nei suoi ricordi, scrisse che il volto della Vergine che poi scolpì ebbe modo di vederlo in sogno. Un’opera ispirata che chi ha modo di vederla non può più dimenticarla. Il pathos della Madonna cattura e penetra sotto pelle di chi l’osserva
Lo scultore ebbe modo di presentare questo suo capolavoro all’Esposizione Universale di Parigi nel 1867 assieme al modello della lunetta per Santa Croce. Le sue opere piacquero così tanto che quell’anno gli valsero una medaglia d’onore.

The restoration of Dupré’s Pietà in Siena has been completed
The restoration of Giovanni Duprè’s Pietà has come to an end, physically carried out by Stefano Landi and financially supported by patrons and cultural institutions.
The work was created by the Sienese sculptor Dupré in 1862, commissioned by Alessandro Bichi Ruspoli. His iconography was revolutionary and different from all previous ones. The artist put his body and soul into realizing what he had in mind and ended up exhausted and falling ill.
