Il Museo Stibbert di Firenze presenta la mostra “Così lontani, così vicini”, dedicata alle fotografie e agli oggetti d’arte collezionati da Frederick Stibbert nel periodo tra l’800 e il ‘900.

Stibbert, un appassionato dell’arte proveniente da Paesi lontani, arredava le sue ricche dimore mescolando oggetti d’arte africani e orientali con opere italiane.

La mostra espone una straordinaria gamma di manufatti, tra cui bronzi giapponesi, sedie dorate italiane del ‘700 e un’arpa birmana, creando un affascinante mescolanza di culture e epoche diverse.

Le fotografie dell’Archivio Alinari catturano questa strana ma armoniosa coesistenza tra mondi lontani.

Un altro esempio di questa fusione di stili e epoche è rappresentato dai gioielli artistici di Peggy Guggenheim, che nella sua dimora veneziana accostava opere d’arte contemporanea a antiche maschere africane.

La mostra “Così lontani, così vicini” è curata da Sabine du Crest ed Enrico Colle e sarà aperta al pubblico fino al 5 maggio.

So far, so close: the exotic art of Federick Stibbert in Florence

The Stibbert Museum in Florence presents the exhibition “So distant, so close”, dedicated to the photographs and art objects collected by Frederick Stibbert in the period between the 19th and 20th centuries.

Stibbert, an art enthusiast from distant countries, furnished his rich homes by mixing African and oriental art objects with Italian works.

The exhibition displays an extraordinary range of artefacts, including Japanese bronzes, 18th century Italian gilded chairs and a Burmese harp, creating a fascinating mix of different cultures and eras. The photographs of the Alinari Archive capture this strange but harmonious coexistence between distant worlds.

Another example of this fusion of styles and eras is represented by the artistic jewels of Peggy Guggenheim, who combined contemporary works of art with ancient African masks in her Venetian home.

The exhibition “So distant, so close” is curated by Sabine du Crest and Enrico Colle and will be open to the public until May 5th.
