Se volete vedere tutte le fasi che si sono susseguite nel corso del recente restauro della Pietà Bandini, ho un interessante video-documentario da proporvi.

In occasione dell’ultimo intervento sull’opera condotto dalla restauratrice Paola Rosa coadiuvata dalla collega Emanuela Pieretti, Giovanni de Stefano si è messo all’opera per girare un documentario ben fatto e dettagliato che mostrasse al pubblico ogni fase del lavoro.

Minuto dopo minuto sarete accompagnati nella narrazione del restauro dalle restauratrici Paola Rosa ed Emanuela Pieretti che vi racconteranno le fasi salienti dell’intervento.

Dopo le lunghe indagini diagnostiche, il restauro della Pietà Bandini è stato cominciato nella parte retrostante del gruppo scultoreo, più annerito dai depositi e dalle macchie di cera causate dai gocciolamenti delle candele quando si trovava all’interno del duomo di Santa Maria del Fiore.

Per rimuovere i depositi di sporco sono stati adoperati tamponi imbevuti di acqua deionizzata leggermente riscaldata. 

Le zone maggiormente scurite dagli strati sovrapposti di cera invecchiati che davano alla Pietà quella caratteristica colorazione ambrata, sono stati resi più omogenei dal punto di vista cromatico con il resto dell’opera utilizzando tamponature localizzate con solventi con impacchi a base di ammonio carbonato in soluzione acquosa con tempi di applicazione variabile.

Le stuccature vecchie sono state rimosse meccanicamente e rifatte con materiali che le rendessero più in linea con la tonalità di colore della Pietà Bandini.

Il restauro è stato avviato nel novembre 2019 e si è protratto fino al settembre del 2021. Interrotto più di una volta a causa della pandemia, questo intervento è stato reso possibile è stato possibile grazie alla cospicua donazione fatta da Friends of Florence. Questa associazione da anni finanzia con importanti donazioni, eccellenti restauri in tutta la regione Toscana. Basta pensare che dal 1998 a oggi Friends of Florence ha donato oltre 10milioni di dollari per progetti di conservazione del patrimonio culturale. Mica cosa da poco. Come si fa a non essergliene grati?

Pietà Bandini: the exclusive video of the restoration

After lengthy diagnostic investigations, the restoration of the Bandini Pietà was begun in the rear part of the sculptural group, more blackened by deposits and wax stains caused by the dripping of candles when it was inside the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.

Swabs soaked in slightly heated deionized water were used to remove dirt deposits.

The areas most darkened by the overlapping layers of aged wax that gave the Pietà that characteristic amber color, were made more homogeneous from the chromatic point of view with the rest of the work by using localized tampons with solvents with compresses based on ammonium carbonate in aqueous solution, with variable application times.

The old stuccoes were removed mechanically and redone with materials that made them more in line with the color tone of the Pietà Bandini.

The restoration was started in November 2019 and lasted until September 2021. Interrupted more than once due to the pandemic, this intervention was made possible thanks to the large donation made by Friends of Florence. For years this association has financed with important donations, excellent restorations throughout the Tuscany region. Just think that since 1998 Friends of Florence has donated over 10 million dollars for cultural heritage conservation projects. Not a trivial matter. How can you not be grateful to him?
