Studio per un ignudo della Sistina
Il disegno che vi propongo oggi ha a che fare con lo studio di un ignudo che poi affrescai nella volta della Sistina. Nello specifico è quello che si trova immediatamente sopra il profeta Daniele, a destra, adiacente al riquadro con la Separazione della Terra dalle Acque.
Sebbene mantenni la stessa posa qua studiata nell’affresco, cambiai però i tratti del volto che nella prima traccia appena accennata appaiono quasi caricaturali. Si tratta di uno studio dal vero eseguito su un modello al quale feci assumere una posa simile a quella del Torso del Belvedere.
Nella versione affrescata l’ignudo appare più giovane e maggiormente idealizzato. Ha una muscolatura meno massiccia rispetto a quella disegnata a sanguigna ma in entrambi i casi il corpo viene illuminato da una luce proveniente da sinistra.
Nel verso del foglio ci sono gli studi di un piede sinistro eseguiti sempre dal vero per il medesimo ignudo del recto e i disegni che raffigurano due adolescenti.
Gli studi delle pose e dei volti di questi due ragazzi non sono altro che i preparatori che mi servirono poi per affrescare lo spiritello a sinistra del Padre Celeste, nel riquadro della Creazione degli Astri.
Sia il recto che il verso del foglio li disegnai attorno al 1510 circa, considerando il fatto che questi studi sono di preparazione alla seconda fase dei lavori della Volta.
Il foglio appartiene alle collezioni del Museum of Art di Cleveland e a seguire vi propongo l’ignudo poi affrescato nella volta.

Study for a nude from the Sistine Chapel
The drawing that I propose to you today has to do with the study of a nude which I later frescoed in the vault of the Sistine Chapel. Specifically, it is the one immediately above the prophet Daniel, on the right, adjacent to the box with the Separation of the Earth from the Waters.
Although I maintained the same pose studied here in the fresco, I changed the features of the face which in the first trace just mentioned appear almost caricatured. This is a life study performed on a model which I made to assume a pose similar to that of the Belvedere Torso.
In the frescoed version the naked appears younger and more idealized. It has a less massive musculature than the one drawn in sanguine but in both cases the body is illuminated by a light coming from the left.
On the verso of the sheet there are the studies of a left foot always carried out from life for the same nude on the recto and the drawings depicting two adolescents.
The studies of the poses and faces of these two boys are none other than the preparers who then served me to fresco the sprite on the left of the Heavenly Father, in the box of the Creation of the Stars.
I drew both the front and the back of the sheet around 1510, considering the fact that these studies are in preparation for the second phase of the work of the Volta.
The sheet belongs to the collections of the Museum of Art in Cleveland and to follow I propose the nude then frescoed in the vault.
