La diplomazia: un’arte a me sconosciuta

Che avessi un carattere un tantino spinoso è cosa nota. Ma che avrei dovuto fare? L’arte mia la conoscevo bene e di farmi prendere in giro proprio non m’andava. Al Doni che provò a fare il furbo gl’andò maluccio: gli raddoppiai il conto pari pari…
Poi c’era sempre chi era pronto a prendere tutto il braccio quando gli offrivi solo un dito ma ho saputo rimetterlo al suo posto.
La famiglia Medici che bene o male un po’ mi conosceva, preferì stipendiare il priore della basilica di San Lorenzo, Giovanni Battista Figiovanni, con 50 ducati al mese affinché gestisse i rapporti con me al posto suo, durante tutta la durata dei lavori della Sagrestia Nuova.
Il Figiovanni stravedeva per me ma non esitò a scrivere che nemmeno Giobbe con la sua proverbiale pazienza m’avrebbe sopportato un solo giorno. “Capomastro della architettura l’unico Michelangelo Simoni, el quale Iob pazienza havuto non arebbe con quello un giorno. Seguitò questo ordine anni circa cinque. Bernardo pagava, et io adoravo Michelangelo come se il papa stato fusse, anz, San Lorenzo (…) Eravi allora 12 maestri di casuola, 20 mastri manovali et 60 scarpellini, altri capi mastri”.
Il sempre vostro Michelangelo Buonarroti e i suoi quotidiani o quasi racconti….o, a proposito, a distanza di secoli posso affermare che avevo ragione io a non voler trattare.
