“Largo tre quarti, lungo braccia dua e mezo.
Li I Luglio 1852 C. Buonarroti”

A block for the New Sacristy
The drawing here above belongs to the collections of the British Museum. It represents the measurements for a block of marble that I managed to get in the Carrara quarries. The block would then serve to carve one of the protagonists of the New Sacristy of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence.
I wrote the measurements directly on a drawing of the block and on the shorter side, traced the symbols with which I always identified the blocks that I bought.
“Three-quarters deep, 2 and a half arms long & an arm and a siuxth deep”
The writing you see on the right side I did not write: my great-grandson Cosimo Buonarroti added it in 1852 to certify the authenticity of the sheet with a seal. “I certify myself that these marble measurements are from the hands of my ancestor the Grand Michelangiolo. July 1, 1852 C. Buonarroti”
Truly yours, Michelangelo Buonarroti and my marble measurments
