Per la prima volta a Firenze arriverà una grande mostra dedicata ad Alphonse Mucha, padre dell’Art Nouveau.

Saranno oltre duecento le opere presenti nel percorso espositivo che accompagneranno il visitatore alla scoperta della Belle Époque quando Parigi era il centro del mondo e Mucha uno degli artisti più celebri e ricercati.

La mostra prodotta da Artemisia, aprirà al pubblico al Museo degli Innocenti, a partire dal 27 ottobre 2023 fino al 7 aprile 2024.

“Alphonse Mucha. La seduzione dell’Art Nouveau” sarà la prima mostra a Firenze dedicata dedicata al più importante artista ceco, padre dell’Art Nouveau e creatore di immagini iconiche.

Nato a Ivancice, nella Repubblica Ceca, nel 1860, Mucha fu un fervente patriota e sostenitore della libertà politica dei popoli slavi e mai smise di dedicarsi all’arte.

Nel 1887 si trasferì a Parigi dove ebbe modo di affina le sue arti e incontrare la donna che cambierà per sempre la sua vita, Sarah Bernhardt. L’attrice più bella e famosa dell’epoca ma anche raffinata scultrice affidò a Mucha la sua immagine rendendolo molto popolare.

Nacque allora il mito delle “donne di Mucha” e le aziende cominciarono a contendersi le sue opere per pubblicizzare i propri prodotti, dando vita alle intramontabili campagne pubblicitarie come quella del cioccolato Nestlé, dello champagne Moët & Chandon, delle sigarette, della birra, dei biscotti e dei profumi.

Mucha però, nonostante il successo ottenuto in terra francese, non dimenticò l’impegno patriottico e sociale. Nel 1910 tornò a Praga e si dedicò per quasi venti anni a quello che è considerato il suo più grande capolavoro: l’Epopea slava, opera colossale composta da venti grandi tele in cui racconta i principali avvenimenti della storia slava.

Mucha morì a Praga nel 1939.

Tra fine ottocento e inizio novecento Parigi era considerata il centro del mondo dell’arte. È il periodo della cosiddetta Belle Époque e Alphonse Mucha, anche grazie all’incontro con Sara Bernhardt, diventa il più famoso e conteso artista dell’epoca. 

Le sue opere, le sue illustrazioni, i poster teatrali e la nascente pubblicità sono accessibili a tutti.  Nasce con lui una nuova forma di comunicazione: la bellezza di fanciulle in fiore, ritratte in una commistione unica tra sacro e profano, voluttuose e seducenti figure, rappresentate con uno stile compositivo unico, sono diventate caratteristiche del noto “stile Mucha”.

È proprio a questo grande artista che Arthemisia e il Museo degli Innocenti dedicano la prossima grande mostra fiorentina.

Con il patrocinio del Comune di Firenze e dell’Ambasciata della Repubblica Ceca, la mostra è organizzata in collaborazione con la Fondazione Mucha e In Your Event by Cristoforo ed è curata da Tomoko Sato con la collaborazione di Francesca Villanti.

Alphonse Mucha for the first time in Florence in a major exhibition

For the first time in Florence, a major exhibition dedicated to Alphonse Mucha, father of Art Nouveau, will arrive.

There will be over two hundred works present in the exhibition itinerary that will accompany the visitor in the discovery of the Belle Époque when Paris was the center of the world and Mucha was one of the most famous and sought-after artists.

The exhibition produced by Artemisia will open to the public at the Museo degli Innocenti from 27 October 2023 until 7 April 2024.

“Alphonse Mucha. The seduction of Art Nouveau” will be the first exhibition in Florence dedicated to the most important Czech artist, father of Art Nouveau and creator of iconic images.

Then the myth of the “women of Mucha” was born and companies began to compete for her works to advertise their products, giving life to the timeless advertising campaigns such as that of Nestlé chocolate, Moët & Chandon champagne, cigarettes, beer, biscuits and perfumes.

However, despite the success achieved on French soil, Mucha did not forget his patriotic and social commitment. In 1910 he returned to Prague and devoted himself for almost twenty years to what is considered his greatest masterpiece: the Slavic Epic, a colossal work made up of twenty large canvases in which he recounts the main events in Slavic history.

Mucha died in Prague in 1939.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Paris was considered the center of the art world. It is the period of the so-called Belle Époque and Alphonse Mucha, also thanks to the meeting with Sara Bernhardt, becomes the most famous and sought-after artist of the time.

His works, his illustrations, theatrical posters and nascent advertising are accessible to all. A new form of communication was born with him: the beauty of young girls in bloom, portrayed in a unique mix of sacred and profane, voluptuous and seductive figures, represented with a unique compositional style, have become characteristics of the well-known “Mucha style”.

It is just to this great artist that Arthemisia and the Museo degli Innocenti dedicate the next major Florentine exhibition.

Under the patronage of the Municipality of Florence and the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Mucha Foundation and In Your Event by Cristoforo and is curated by Tomoko Sato with the collaboration of Francesca Villanti.
