Caterina de’ Medici, The Serpent Queen, sta per arrivare sui nostri schermi.

The Serpent Queen dà una svolta contemporanea alla narrazione convenzionale con la sovrana stessa che, attraverso flashback, narra il suo passato e impartisce le lezioni che ha imparato alla sua nuova serva e confidente, Rahima.

A 14 anni, la giovane orfana Caterina, viene data in sposa alla corte francese del XVI secolo. È la nipote di papa Clemente VII interpretato da Charles Dance. Il pontefice ha negoziato con il Re di Francia una ricca dote, un’alleanza geopolitica e l’aspettativa di molti eredi in cambio dell’unione in matrimonio con il suo secondogenito.

La prima notte di nozze Caterina scopre che il marito è innamorato della dama di compagnia Diane de Poitiers interpretata da Ludivine Sagnier.

Con il futuro che all’improvviso diviene incerto e con poche speranze di concepimento, Caterina capisce rapidamente di chi può fidarsi e chi no e poco a poco supera in astuzia chiunque sottovaluti la sua determinazione a sopravvivere ad ogni costo.
