Manca sempre meno all’inaugurazione della mostra “Donatello, il Rinascimento” e c’è un gran fermento in giro. Stanno arrivando a Palazzo Vecchio e al Museo Nazionale del Bargello importanti prestiti nazionali e internazionali che ben presto saranno accessibili al pubblico all’interno del percorso espositivo dislocato nelle due sedi museali.

Sono in fase di trasferimento il San Giovanni Battista e la lastra tombale del vescovo Pecci, entrambe opere di Donatello appartenenti al Complesso del Duomo di Siena.

Anche all’interno della Basilica di San Lorenzo si sta lavorando in vista della mostra. La Porta degli Apostoli della Sagrestia Vecchia realizzata da Donatello è già stata smontata, imballata e trasferita a Palazzo Strozzi. La potrete vedere in tale sede espositiva a partire dal 19 marzo.

In partenza anche il San Ludovico di Tolosa di Donatello dall’Opera di Santa Croce. A breve raggiungerà Palazzo Strozzi per entrare a far parte del percorso espositivo.

Quest’opera in bronzo dorato fu realizzata fra il 1422 e il 1425 e ha un’altezza di tre metri per ben cinquecento chili di peso. L’imballaggio che proteggerà l’opera durante il trasferimento viene realizzato direttamente il loco. L’Opera di Santa Croce presterà anche il Crocifisso di Donatello, da poco restaurato.

Nel cortile di Palazzo Strozzi sono stati montati i ponteggi necessari per far arrivare al piano superiore tutte le opere che stanno confluendo dai vari prestiti.

Dal Museo Nazionale di San Matteo a Pisa arriverà a breve il reliquiario di San Lussorio o San Rossore che dir si voglia, realizzato da Donatello fra il 1424 e il 1427. A ragione è considerato uno dei capolavori massimi della scultura quattrocentesca. Il Santo viene rappresentato dal grande Donatello come un principe rinascimentale

Quest’opera era destinata a contenere il cranio di San Lussorio: una reliquia fino al 1422 rimasta a Pisa poi trasferita a Firenze. Solo nel 1529 la famiglia Medici decide restituire le reliquie del Santo a Pisa e fanno portare l’opera di Donatello che le contiene nella chiesa di Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri. Lì il reliquiario rimase fino al 1976, quando fu trafugato. Dopo pochi giorni l’opera però fu ritrovata e da allora è custodita all’interno del Museo Nazionale di San Matteo.

Fra le opere esposte ci saranno due importanti Madonne col Bambino in terracotta di Donatello e le potrete ammirare nella sede espositiva di Palazzo Strozzi.

Entrambe erano state tolte dal Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum di Berlino (oggi noto con il nome di Bode-Museum) per ripararle all’interno di un bunker. Purtroppo le due opere furono coinvolte in un incendio nel maggio del 1945 e andarono in frantumi.

Le Madonne con Bambino furono portate a Leningrado, restaurate negli anni Cinquanta e poi restituite alla Repubblica Democratica Tedesca.

Le opere esposte saranno circa 130 fra sculture, disegni e dipinti dislocate in quattordici differenti sezioni distribuite in due sedi: Palazzo Strozzi e il Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Per vederle tutte dovrete quindi accedere ai due musei.

Il Museo Nazionale del Bargello attualmente sta preparando il nuovo allestimento del Salone di Donatello. Sarà possibile ammirare il Marzocco, David e il San Giorgio di Donatello, opere messe a confronto con i capolavori di Andrea del Castagno, il David di Desiderio da Settignano che arriverà dalla National Gallery di Washington e la superba Madonna delle Nuvole da Boston.

Ci sarà anche la mia Madonna della Scala appena restaurata, prestata per per questa mostra epocale da Casa Buonarroti.

La mostra “Donatello. Il Rinascimento” sarà accessibile dal 19 marzo 2022 fino al 31 luglio 2022 a Palazzo Strozzi e al Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Non perdete l’occasione di visitarla.

“Donatello: the Renaissance”: the departing works

Less and less is missing from the inauguration of the “Donatello, the Renaissance” exhibition and there is a great deal of excitement around. Important national and international loans are arriving at Palazzo Vecchio and the Bargello National Museum that will soon be accessible to the public within the exhibition path located in the two museums.

The San Giovanni Battista and the tombstone of Bishop Pecci, both works by Donatello belonging to the Siena Cathedral Complex, are being transferred.

Work is also underway inside the Basilica of San Lorenzo in view of the exhibition. The Porta degli Apostoli of the Old Sacristy built by Donatello has already been dismantled, packed and transferred to Palazzo Strozzi. You will be able to see it in this exhibition venue starting from March 19th.

This gilded bronze work was made between 1422 and 1425 and has a height of three meters and weighs a good five hundred kilos. The packaging that will protect the work during the transfer is made directly on site. The Opera di Santa Croce will also lend the recently restored Crucifix by Donatello.

In the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi, the scaffolding necessary to bring all the works that are flowing from the various loans to the upper floor has been erected.

The reliquary of San Lussorio or San Rossore, if you prefer, made by Donatello between 1424 and 1427 will soon arrive from the National Museum of San Matteo in Pisa. This work was intended to contain the skull of San Lussorio: a relic that remained in Pisa until 1422 and then moved to Florence.
