La Pietà Rondanini è la mia scultura più sofferta e tormentata. Forse quella che meglio rende l’idea della drammaticità del momento e scava nel profondo di chi la osserva.

Il giorno dopo la mia morte arrivò un impiegato del Tribunale di Roma nella casa di Macel de’ Corvi per redarre un accurato inventario. Vedendo la Pietà annota: “Uno Cristo principiato e non finito e una scultura sopra, tutte e due attaccate insieme”. Sintesi perfetta per descrivere in breve un’opera che tanto ha fatto discutere, pensare e commuovere per generazioni intere.

Quello che vi propongo oggi è un viaggio alla scoperta della Pietà Rondanini in compagnia del professor Antonio Paolucci, assieme ad altri ospiti che mettono in chiaro come mai è stata scelta quella nuova collocazion eallì’interno dello Spedale Spagnolo del Castello Sforzesco a Milano.

The Pietà Rondanini is my most suffered and tormented sculpture. Perhaps the one that best expresses the idea of the drama of the moment and delves deep into the observer.

The day after my death an employee of the Court of Rome arrived at Macel de Corvi’s house to draw up an accurate inventory. Seeing the Pietà, he notes: “A princely and unfinished Christ and a sculpture above, both of us stuck together”. Perfect synthesis to briefly describe a work that has caused so much discussion, thinking and moving for entire generations.

What I propose today is a journey to discover the Pietà Rondanini in the company of Professor Antonio Paolucci, along with other guests who make it clear why the new location within the Spedale Spagnolo of Castello Sforzesco in Milan was chosen.
