Viareggio si è svegliata in festa domenica 1° febbraio 2026. Il cielo limpido, il sole che illuminava il mare e l’aria frizzante di Carnevale hanno fatto da cornice a una giornata che resterà impressa nella memoria di chi c’era. Sui viali a mare, fin dalle prime ore del pomeriggio, una folla colorata ha invaso il percorso tra coriandoli, maschere, musica e sorrisi: è iniziata ufficialmente la 153ª edizione del Carnevale di Viareggio.

Alle 15 in punto, puntuale come un orologio svizzero, il tradizionale triplice colpo di cannone ha annunciato l’avvio del primo Corso Mascherato dei sei in programma nel mese di febbraio. Un boato che ha fatto vibrare il lungomare e acceso l’entusiasmo di grandi e piccoli, pronti a lasciarsi trasportare dalla magia della cartapesta.

Il rito dell’apertura: Burlamacco, musica e tradizione

Gli squilli di tromba dell’Orselli, le note intramontabili di “Su la coppa di champagne” e l’innalzamento della Burlamacca sul pennone più alto di piazza Mazzini hanno segnato uno dei momenti più emozionanti della giornata. Un rito collettivo che ogni anno rinnova il legame profondo tra Viareggio e il suo Carnevale.

Ad aprire la cerimonia è stata la Fanfara dell’Accademia Navale di Livorno, composta da venti giovani musicisti provenienti da Conservatori e Licei Musicali di tutta Italia. A seguire, lo spettacolo dei Giona Show, vere star dell’arte equestre: sette cavalli, sette cavalieri, tutti vestiti con i costumi di Burlamacco, hanno incantato il pubblico con eleganza e potenza scenica, strappando applausi lungo tutto il percorso.

I grandi carri allegorici 2026: satira, arte e meraviglia

Poi, finalmente, i protagonisti assoluti: i carri allegorici, giganti di cartapesta alti oltre venti metri, frutto di mesi di lavoro nei capannoni della Cittadella e dell’ingegno dei maestri carristi. Opere monumentali che raccontano il nostro tempo con ironia, critica sociale, poesia e stupore.

Quest’anno è ritornata in modo predominante la satira politica e tra i protagonisti più gettonati ci sono Trump e la Von der Leyen.

Viareggio awoke in celebration on Sunday, February 1, 2026. The clear sky, the sun shining on the sea, and the crisp Carnival air set the scene for a day that will remain etched in the memories of those who were there. From the early afternoon, a colorful crowd filled the seaside promenades with confetti, masks, music, and smiles: the 153rd edition of the Viareggio Carnival had officially begun.

At 3:00 PM sharp, like clockwork, the traditional triple cannon shot announced the start of the first of the six masked parades scheduled for February. A roar that reverberated along the seafront and ignited the enthusiasm of adults and children alike, ready to be transported by the magic of papier-mâché.

The Opening Ritual: Burlamacco, Music, and Tradition

The trumpet blasts of the Orselli Orchestra, the timeless strains of “Up the Champagne Cup,” and the raising of the Burlamacca to the highest flagpole in Piazza Mazzini marked one of the most emotional moments of the day. A collective ritual that each year renews the profound bond between Viareggio and its Carnival.

The ceremony was opened by the Livorno Naval Academy Band, composed of twenty young musicians from conservatories and music high schools across Italy. This was followed by a performance by the Giona Show, true stars of equestrian art: seven horses and seven riders, all dressed in Burlamacco costumes, enchanted the audience with elegance and stage presence, drawing applause along the entire route.
