La Scultura del giorno: busto di una sconosciuta del Bartolini
La scultura del giorno che vi propongo oggi è il busto di una sconosciuta alla quale Lorenzo Bartolini volle rendere omaggio con questo raffinato ritratto, probabilmente idealizzato secondo i canoni estetici dell’epoca.
Di quest’opera poco si conosce e non sappiamo se venne commissionata da qualche facoltoso personaggio o meno ma neanche chi fosse la dama rappresentata.
Quello che è certo è che Bartolini si ispirò liberamente a un busto del primo Rinascimento assai più noto: la Dama con il mazzolino di fiori del Verrocchio, custodita oggi al Museo nazionale del Bargello, a Firenze.
La scultura a mezzo busto venne realizzata in marmo bianco di Carrara nel 1825 circa. Raffigura una giovane dama con la testa rivolta verso sinistra.
La donna sfoggia un abito aderente e scollato senza biancheria sotto e che lascia le spalle scoperte. Le maniche non hanno cuciture ma sono sostenute da bottoni.
Sul braccio sinistro sostiene parte dello scialle mentre, con la mano destra, porta all’altezza del petto un mazzolino di fiori.
La dama sconosciuta scolpita con la massima cura dei dettagli dal Bartolini si trova ad Amsterdam e appartiene al Rijksmuseum.

Sculpture of the day: Bust of an unknown woman by Bartolini
The sculpture of the day that I propose to you today is the bust of an unknown woman to whom Lorenzo Bartolini wanted to pay homage with this refined portrait, probably idealized according to the aesthetic canons of the time.
Little is known about this work and we do not know whether it was commissioned by some wealthy person or not, nor who the lady represented was.
What is certain is that Bartolini was freely inspired by a much better-known bust of the early Renaissance: the Lady with a Bouquet of Flowers by Verrocchio, now kept at the Bargello National Museum in Florence.
The half-length sculpture was made of white Carrara marble around 1825. It depicts a young lady with her head turned to the left.
The woman is wearing a tight, low-cut dress with no underwear underneath and that leaves her shoulders uncovered. The sleeves have no seams but are held up by buttons.
On her left arm she holds part of the shawl while, with her right hand, she brings a bouquet of flowers to her chest.
The unknown lady sculpted with the utmost attention to detail by Bartolini is in Amsterdam and belongs to the Rijksmuseum.
