Signorelli’s frescoes in high definition online
If you want to see at close range the frescoes that Signorelli created in the Chapel of San Brizio in the cathedral of Orvieto, it is now possible to do so online with breathtaking, high-resolution images of even the most minute details just a click away.
Luca Signorelli, who in his old age tried to pity me in order to extract money from me, in 1499 signed the contract which committed him to completing the decoration of the vaults of the New Chapel, better known as the Chapel of San Brizio.
Before him, none other than Fra Angelico had worked there. Signorelli overturns the most typical medieval imprint of his predecessor by creating an incredible perspective illusionistic composition.
Above he frescoed scenes of the Last Judgment and the Antichrist which later became among the most famous pieces of painting of the Renaissance.
On the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of his death, thanks to the project promoted by the Opera del Duomo of Orvieto, the innovative company Haltadefinizione specialized in the digitization of cultural heritage, has put online the entire cycle of frescoes created by Signorelli.
The frescoes can be enjoyed at 360° and free of charge.
To digitize the entire frescoed surface, Haltadefinizione produced around 10 thousand shots to then allow everyone to see even the smallest details of the pictorial surface, with the opportunity to enlarge the images without them becoming grainy.
