In questo periodo alla Galleria dell’Accademia sono in corso diversi rinnovamenti. Dopo i lavori di ristrutturazione, manutenzione, riallestimento, illuminazione e climatizzazione della Sala del Colosso che accoglie fra le diverse opere il modello originale del Ratto delle Sabine in terra cruda policroma, adesso sono in corso i lavori per creare la nuova illuminazione a LED delle opere presenti nel Corridoio dei Prigioni e del David.

Se alcuni lavoro che sono in corso d’opera e altri già realizzati mi sembrano ottimi, su un intervento in particolare avrei da ridire qualcosuccia.

Recentemente sono stati rimossi i cristalli blindati posti dal 1992 alla base dei Prigioni, del San Matteo, della Pietà Palestrina realizzata da chissà chi e del David a vantaggio di nuovi distanziatori in metallo. Una scelta ovviamente estetica migliore ma che a mio avviso va a discapito della sicurezza delle opere.

Sapete, fu deciso di posizionare quei cristalli antri-proiettili all’indomani dell’attentato che subì il David il 14 settembre del 1991. Ve lo ricordate?

La prima opera che si pensò di proteggere da gesti come questo fu proprio il David, con un parallelepipedo di cristallo blindato alto circa due metri che fino a non molti giorni fa circondava la base dell’opera.

Collocato a distanza di 80 centimetri dalla base, il cristallo costituiva una barriera fisica per evitare che qualcuno potesse avvicinarsi troppo all’opera. Prima di quell’installazione a protezione dell’opera, il David aveva proprio una balaustra in ottone che risultò non essere sufficiente alla luce di quel 14 settembre.

Già allora si temeva che nascessero forti polemiche per l’installazione dei cristalli per l’effetto estetico finale. L’allora sovrintendente del Polo Museale Fiorentino Paolucci ne parlò in questi termini “La balaustra d’ ottone non è più sufficiente. Qualcuno potrebbe tentare di imitare Cannata. In questa vicenda è diventato popolare sia l’ autore sia il gesto”.

Sapete quanto costarono alla collettività quei cristalli?

Circa 100milioni di lire e adesso vengono smantellati così ritornando ai vecchi sistemi di protezione che a quanto pare protessero ben poco in occasione dell’attentato del 14 settembre 1991. La ditta incaricata di eseguire i lavori fu la Goppion, un’azienda specializzata nel settore che ha la sua sede principale a Trezzano sul Naviglio, vicino Milano.

Bellezza a discapito della sicurezza? Non lo so ma me lo domando. Qual è il giusto equilibrio e soprattutto perché demolire un lavoro costato così tanto alla collettività che proteggeva le opere in modo più adeguato? Che sarebbe successo se qualche giorno fa la Gioconda presa di mira da un tale che le ha lanciato una torta alla panna non avesse avuto il cristallo?

Proteggere tutto il patrimonio artistico in quel modo è impensabile però ecco, non trovo un senso nel rimuovere le protezioni che già ci sono
