Carrara di nuovo m’ha aperto le braccia accogliendomi fra le sue strade, la sua gente, le sue cave e le sue meraviglie non scontate. Ogni volta che torno imparo sempre qualcosa di nuovo che nemmeno immaginavo, quasi la città fosse il cappello di un mago dal quale ogni volta esce un coniglio dal colore diverso.

Da dove comincio a raccontare? Dall’inizio, mi pare ovvio, no? Visto che già so che mi dilungherò parecchio, ho deciso di dividere il racconto di queste due intense giornate in due parti.

Lo scultore Michele Monfroni ha accolto il mio alter ego nel suo laboratorio artistico. Già lo scorso anno avevo avuto il piacere di conoscerlo e di poter vedere a distanza ravvicinata i suoi lavori richiesti ed esportati in tutto il mondo. Carrara è la città del marmo e della scultura. Ovunque si respira quest’arte dal sapore antico e moderno.

La scultura ha un fascino quasi mistico talmente coinvolgente che riesce a scatenare passioni smisurate. L’amore per il mestiere che trasmette Monfroni va oltre ogni immaginazione. Figlio d’arte, già da piccino ha iniziato a tenere in mano martello e scalpello, seguito dal padre Luciano che purtroppo da poco è passato a miglior vita.

Provare a scolpire sarà una delle tante esperienze che tutti voi potrete fare durante l’evento White Carrara Downtown in modo particolare durante le lezioni en plain air davanti all’Accademia di Belle Arti.

Dopo aver trascorso un paio di piacevolissime ore nel laboratorio di Monfroni, lo stomaco ha iniziato a reclamare qualcosa di sostanzioso. Dove andare allora? Colonnata sembrava l’opzione migliore. Il piccolo borgo è conosciuto in tutto il mondo per la produzione di lardo Igp e mica potevo esimermi dall’assaggiarlo. La merenderia Da Matti ha proposto una golosa degustazione a base di prodotti tipici del luogo.

Colonnata val bene una visita approfondita per conoscere le sue larderie ma anche la sua storia fatta di cavatori, resistenza e anarchici. Un paese che sembra si sia fermato nel tempo: un vero gioiellino circondato da cave e ravaneti, ancora a misura di uomo

La giornata mica finisce qua perchè dopo la cena da Re Bacco in pieno centro a Carrara m’aspettava l’interessante visita in notturna guidata all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara. In occasione della fondazione di Carrara Nova, avvenuta il 10 maggio 1557, l’Associazione Amici dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara ha organizzato una visita by night mirata a far scoprire la storia ma anche i tesori che questo importante complesso conserva.

Pensate che proprio qua sono presenti circa 300 gessi fra calchi, modelli e bassorilievi. Fra i pezzi più importanti vale la pena menzionare quelli di Canova, Thorvaldsen, Finelli, Tenerani e Bartolini.

In compagnia dell’architetto Corrado Lattanzi, dello storico dell’arte Davide Pugnana e degli altri partecipanti alla serata, mi sono aggirato fra le sale dell’Accademia. Vi prometto che a breve non solo vi farò vedere parte di questa incredibile serata attraverso altri video ma mi racconterò anche la storia di questo tesoro di Carrara.

La serata in Accademia è terminata con uno spettacolo di danza rinascimentale all’interno del salone che solitamente il principe Carlo I Cybo Malaspina accoglieva n grande stile gli ospiti più importanti. Lo spettacolo è stato offerto dall’Associazione Antica Massa Cybea-Danze Storiche La Riverenza.

Ringrazio la Internazionale Marmo Macchine cha invitato il mio alter ego a partecipare a una intensa due giorni di eventi per proporre a me e ad altri noti blogger tutto ciò che di affascinante ha Carrara. Venite ad avventurarvi fra le strade del centro storico, fra i suoi musei e i tre bacini marmiferi senza dimenticarvi di assaporare la sua cucina fatta di cose povere ma ricche di sapore.

Dal 1° al 9 giugno 2019 la città si vestirà a festa con la terza edizione di White Carrara Downtown. Una fiera diffusa ricca di eventi da vivere come le passeggiate culturali a cura di IMM, il Marble Cafè di cui ho avuto l’onore di essere uno dei protagonisti lo scorso anno, il concerto evento nella cava Lazzareschi “The legend of Morricone”, i pacchetti turistici realizzati ad hoc per l’occasion, lezioni en plain air di scultura, i temporary shop, mostre e tanti altri eventi collaterali. Carrara and its wonders: part I

Carrara again opened its arms welcoming me among its streets, its people, its quarries and his not obvious wonders. Every time I come back I always learn something new that I didn’t even imagine, almost the city was a magician’s hat from which each time a rabbit with a different color comes out.

Where do I begin to tell? From the beginning, it seems obvious to me, right? Since I already know that I will go a long way, I decided to divide the story of these two intense days into two parts.

The sculptor Michele Monfroni welcomed my alter ego in his artistic workshop. Already last year I had the pleasure of meeting him and being able to see his required and exported works all over the world at close range. Carrara is the city of marble and sculpture. Everywhere you can breathe this art with an ancient and modern flavor.

The sculpture has such an almost mystical fascination that it manages to unleash huge passions. The love for the job that Monfroni transmits goes beyond imagination. Son of art, as a child he started to hold a hammer and chisel, followed by his father Luciano, who unfortunately just passed away.

Trying to sculpt will be one of the many experiences that you can all do during the White Carrara Downtown event, especially during the open air lessons in front of the Academy of Fine Arts.

After spending a couple of very pleasant hours in Monfroni’s laboratory, the stomach started to claim something substantial. Where to go then? Colonnata seemed the best option. The small village is known throughout the world for the production of Igp lardo and I could not fail to taste it. La Merenderia Da Matti proposed a delicious tasting based on typical local products.

Colonnata is well worth a thorough visit to learn about its larderie but also its history of quarrymen, resistance and anarchists. A country that seems to have stopped in time: a real gem surrounded by quarries and ravaneti, still fit for men.

The day does not end here because after the dinner at King Bacchus in the center of Carrara the interesting guided night visit to the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara was waiting for me. On the occasion of the founding of Carrara Nova, which took place on May 10th 1557, the Friends Association of the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara organized a visit by night aimed at discovering the history but also the treasures that this important complex preserves.

Just think that there are about 300 plaster casts, casts and bas-reliefs here. Among the most important pieces it is worth mentioning those of Canova, Thorvaldsen, Finelli, Tenerani and Bartolini.

In the company of the architect Corrado Lattanzi, the art historian Davide Pugnana and the other participants in the evening, I wandered through the halls of the Academy.  The evening at the Academy ended with a Renaissance dance show inside the hall that usually Prince Charles I Cybo Malaspina welcomed the most important guests in style. The show was offered by the Ancient Massa Cybea Association – La Danza La Riverenza.

I thank the International Marble Machines that invited my alter ego to participate in an intense two days of events to propose to me and to other well-known bloggers all that is fascinating about Carrara.
