Guardate bene il disegno a seguire. Lo riconoscete? E’ lo studio che realizzai per uno degli angeli apteri che “cortesemente” invitano ad andare all’inferno i dannati nel giorno del Giudizio.

Per quanto possa sembrarvi strano, questo foglio è stato riscoperto solo in tempi recenti. Era il 1960 quando sbucò fuori presso la Corsham Court. Su una striscia di guardia ottocentesca era scritta l’attribuzione a me. Gli esperti che studiarono a fondo il disegno quali Hirst e Dussler non ebbero alcun dubbio si trattasse di un disegno autografo. Tolnay scrisse in merito nel 1978 “l’altissima qualità del disegno ne rende indiscussa l’attribuzione”

Attualmente il disegno appartiene al British Museum di Londra ed è stato datato attorno al 1540.

Tracciando questo disegno mi immaginai che anche gli angeli potessero perdere la pazienzache e per evitare che qualche anima non troppo pura potesse ascendere alla gloria dei celi, adoperasserole maniere forti. Il sempre vostro Michelangelo Buonarroti e i suoi racconti

The study of the angel who punches the damned

The attribution to me was written on a nineteenth-century guard strip. The experts who studied the drawing thoroughly such as Hirst and Dussler had no doubt that it was an autograph drawing. Currently the drawing belongs to the British Museum in London and has been dated around 1540.
