5milioni di persone ogni anno calpestano il pavimento cosmatesco della Cappella Sistina per ammirare i capolavori miei. Sebbene il secondo registro sia riccamente affrescato da artisti quattrocenteschi di tutto rispetto come il Botticelli, il Perugino e il Ghirlandaio, vengono spesso snobbati. Un vero peccato ma d’altro canto confrontarsi con me non è mica roba da ridere nemmeno per artisti di quel calibro. Se i loro capolavori fossero stati realizzati in un luogo diverso, sicuramente avrebbero avuto maggiore attenzione.

In genere i visitatori entrano e si soffermano subito a guardare il Giudizio Universale. Quel lapislazzuli è magnetico e magnetici sono anche i corpi che si contorcono fra il dolore della dannazione eterna e la gloria della salvezza da Cristo concessa. Dopo il Giudizio e dopo aver magari tentato di scattare qualche foto proibita, alzano gli occhi al cielo cercando di trovare le figure a loro più familiari. Le dita di Adamo e Dio che stanno per toccarsi sono fra i brani di pittura più amati, a seguire la Sibilla Libica e quella Delfica. Poi se ancora i propri piedi non sono finiti sotto decine di altri, si cerca pure qualche profeta.

Un po’ a causa della mia indole irrequieta e un po’ a causa del mio modo di lavorare, sia le sculture che gli affreschi a cui diedi vita sono frutto di un feroce corpo a corpo con la materia. Pennelli e scalpelli erano prolungamenti dei miei arti, abilmente guidati dalla mente perchè in fondo si dipinge col cerviello et non con le mani.
