La scultura del giorno che voglio proporvi oggi è quella realizzata dall’artista Stephan Sinding che ritrae un uomo e una donna allacciati in uno stretto abbraccio.

Lo scultore norvegese Sinding era noto per il suo stile del tutto personale che metteva assieme naturalismo, simbolismo e realismo. La sua vita e la sua carriera artistica vennero influenzate da un’educazione eclettica e da viaggi che lo portato a stabilirsi per lungo tempo in diverse capitali europee.

La posa pensata per i due corpi che si stringono in un abbraccio passionale fu attentamente studiata dall’artista per ottenere una resa il più naturale e somigliante al vero possibile.

Accenni biografici dello scultore Stephan Sinding 

Nato a Trondheim, in Norvegia, Sinding iniziò subito studi artistici ma preferì dapprima cimentarsi con il diritto all’Università di Christiania (l’odierna Oslo). La sua vera vocazione lo spinse però a frequentare la Scuola Reale di Disegno, dove ebbe modo di dedicarsi alla scultura.

Successivamente, si trasferì a Berlino per studiare sotto la guida di Albert Wolff. Durante un soggiorno a Parigi, tra il 1874 e il 1875, venne influenzato dalle nuove correnti artistiche quali il realismo francese e le opere di Rodin. Fu proprio quel periodo ad essere cruciale per lo sviluppo del suo stile.

Il punto di svolta nella carriera di Sinding avvenne nel 1883, quando si trasferì a Copenaghen. Lì ottenne la cittadinanza danese nel 1890 e conobbe grande successo, tanto da essere considerato uno degli scultori scandinavi più importanti del suo tempo.

Carl Jacobsen, fondatore della Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, fu uno dei suoi principali sostenitori e mecenati, dedicando un posto di rilievo alle sue opere nel museo.
