Un viaggio nella bellezza e nella fede. E’ quello che papa Francesco si appresta a fare assieme a noti artisti di calibro internazionale partendo da un luogo straordinario: la Cappella Sistina.

‘Preachers of Beauty: A Spiritual Journey Through Art and Faith’ ovvero ‘Predicatori di bellezza: un viaggio spirituale attraverso l’arte e la fede’ è il documentario prodotto da Andrea Iervolino e Luis Quinelli, insieme a Tatatu e alla Vitae Global Foundation che verrà girato all’interno della Sistina con papa Francesco.

Le riprese avranno inizio nel mese di marzo lì dove io, e prima di me il Botticelli, Perugino, Bartolomeo della Gatta, Fra Diamante, Piero di Cosimo e il Pinturicchio, mettemmo mano per creare qualcosa di unico.

Il progetto è stato ufficializzato il 20 gennaio mediante un’udienza privata che si è svolta al cospetto del pontefice, all’interno della biblioteca del Palazzo Apostolico.

‘Preachers of Beauty’ aspira a essere molto di più di un semplice documentario. L’arte non ha confini e usa un linguaggio universale a tutti comprensibile.

L’arte è sempre stata legata all’esperienza della bellezza. Simone Weil scriveva: «La bellezza seduce la carne per ottenere il permesso di passare fino all’anima» (L’ombra e la grazia, Bologna 2021, 193). L’arte tocca i sensi per animare lo spirito e fa questo attraverso la bellezza, che è il riflesso delle cose quando sono buone, giuste, vere. È il segno che qualcosa ha pienezza: è infatti allora che ci viene spontaneo dire: “Che bello!” La bellezza ci fa sentire che la vita è orientata alla pienezza. Nella vera bellezza si comincia così a provare la nostalgia di Dio. Molti sperano che l’arte torni maggiormente a frequentare la bellezza.

New documentary film by Pope Francis: a journey through art and faith in the Sistine Chapel

A journey through beauty and faith. This is what Pope Francis is preparing to do together with well-known international artists starting from an extraordinary place: the Sistine Chapel.

‘Preachers of Beauty: A Spiritual Journey Through Art and Faith’ is the documentary produced by Andrea Iervolino and Luis Quinelli, together with Tatatu and the Vitae Global Foundation that will be filmed inside the Sistine Chapel with Pope Francis.

Filming will begin in March, where I, and before me Botticelli, Perugino, Bartolomeo della Gatta, Fra Diamante, Piero di Cosimo and Pinturicchio, started to create something unique.

‘Preachers of Beauty’ aspires to be much more than a simple documentary. Art has no boundaries and uses a universal language that everyone can understand.

Art has always been linked to the experience of beauty. Simone Weil wrote: “Beauty seduces the flesh to obtain permission to pass to the soul” (The Shadow and the Grace, Bologna 2021, 193). Art touches the senses to animate the spirit and does this through beauty, which is the reflection of things when they are good, right, true. It is the sign that something has fullness: it is then that we spontaneously say: “How beautiful!” Beauty makes us feel that life is oriented towards fullness. In true beauty we thus begin to feel nostalgia for God. Many hope that art will return to frequent beauty more.
