Nell’Antica Canonica di San Giovanni dove oggi sorge la Libreria Brunelleschi, a Firenze, è in corso la mostra ‘La Distanza Ravvicinata’ della fotografa Lilyana Karadjova, curata da Vicenzo Circosta e Giuseppe Giari.

Si tratta di una mostra fotografica insolita che ha come soggetto le reliquie dei Santi custodite nel Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. L’artista Lilyana Karadjova, invece di adoperare la carta come supporto per le sue cianotipie, usa in modo sorprendente il vetro.

Un processo assai singolare ottenuto dopo anni di ricerche e studi che ha permesso all’artista di mettere a punto una tecnica fotochimica raramente utilizzata che consente di evidenziare la radiosità delle Reliquie proposte.

“Usando l’antica tecnica della cianotipia – spiega il curatore Vincenzo Circosta –, Lilyana stampa su vetro immagini uniche, al limite dell’artigianale, un supporto desueto e fragile come fragili appaiono i frammenti ossei fotografati che, per processo chimico, assumono un colore blu a ricordo tangibile del Regno Celeste”.

L’antico metodo di stampa fotografica della cianotipia è stato adoperata per la prima volta da una donna, Anna Atkins, considerata la prima fotografa della storia e oggi sempre una donna, l’artista Lilyana Karadjova, ripropone l’utilizzo di questo metodo mediante la riproduzione su lastre di vetro.

“La fotografia è sempre una questione di distanza. La distanza delle lenti dell’obiettivo, che avvicinano o allontanano il soggetto; la posizione stessa del fotografo che sceglie il punto di ripresa, determinando la distanza dalla scena che vuol rappresentare. Robert Capa, il più noto tra i reporter di guerra, affermava che «se le tue foto non sono abbastanza buone, vuol dire che non sei abbastanza vicino»”, aggiunge il curatore Giuseppe Giari.

La mostra ‘La Distanza Ravvicinata’ rimarrà aperta al pubblico gratuitamente fino al 31 marzo 2025.

In the Antica Canonica di San Giovanni where the Libreria Brunelleschi now stands, in Florence, the exhibition ‘La Distanza Ravvicinata’ by photographer Lilyana Karadjova is underway, curated by Vicenzo Circosta and Giuseppe Giari.

A very unique process obtained after years of research and studies that allowed the artist to develop a rarely used photochemical technique that allows to highlight the radiance of the proposed Relics.

“Using the ancient technique of cyanotype – explains curator Vincenzo Circosta –, Lilyana prints unique images on glass, bordering on the artisanal, an obsolete and fragile support as fragile as the photographed bone fragments appear which, through a chemical process, take on a blue color as a tangible reminder of the Celestial Kingdom”.

The ancient photographic printing method of cyanotype was used for the first time by a woman, Anna Atkins, considered the first photographer in history and today again a woman, the artist Lilyana Karadjova, proposes the use of this method through reproduction on glass plates.
