L’opera del Natale: la Mattina di Natale di Henry Mosler
L’opera del Natale che vi propongo oggi è la Mattina di Natale, dipinta a olio su tela da Henry Moslernel 1916.
L’opera appartiene a una collezione privata e mostra due fratellini che la mattina del 25 dicembre si svegliano, scendono dal letto e da dietro la porta socchiusa guardano l’albero di Natale o meglio, cercano di capire se Babbo Natale ha lasciato loro qualche regalo.
Rimangono immobili a guardare, immobilizzati dall’eccitazione di scoprire i doni e timorosi di ritrovarsi faccia a faccia con la figura barbuta che li ha messi lì, come fa ogni anno.
La trottola è uno dei regali ma probabilmente il dono più atteso è il cagnolino.
La scena è illuminata dal bagliore tremolante delle candele poste sull’albero che riescono a creare un’atmosfera familiare accogliente e bella da vivere. Soprattutto nei paesi nordici, un tempo era in uso addobbare l’albero di Natale con candele accese.
Un metodo di grande effetto ma che poteva risultare assai pericoloso: mettere candele accese su un albero ricco di resina non è il massimo per la sucurezza.
Il pittore Moser che volle firmare l’opera in basso a sinistra, riesce a catturare e a narrare tutta la magia della mattina del Natale e ci fa tornare indietro col pensiero, a quando i bambini in attesa eravamo noi.

The Christmas work: Christmas Morning by Henry Mosler
The Christmas work I propose to you today is Christmas Morning, painted in oil on canvas by Henry Mosler in 1916.
The work belongs to a private collection and shows two little brothers who wake up on the morning of December 25th, get out of bed and look at the Christmas tree from behind the half-open door, or rather, try to understand if Santa Claus has left them any presents.
They remain still watching, immobilized by the excitement of discovering the gifts and fearful of finding themselves face to face with the bearded figure who put them there, as he does every year.
The spinning top is one of the gifts but probably the most awaited gift is the puppy.
The scene is illuminated by the flickering glow of the candles placed on the tree that manage to create a welcoming and beautiful family atmosphere to live in. Especially in the Nordic countries it was once customary to decorate the Christmas tree with lit candles.
A method of great effect but that could be very dangerous: putting lit candles on a tree full of resin is not the best for safety.
The painter Moser who wanted to sign the work in the lower left, manages to capture and narrate all the magic of Christmas morning and makes us think back to when we were the children waiting.
