È stata rubata la scultura in bronzo che ritrae Gilles Villeneuve nella notte tra mercoledì e giovedì scorso. Alta un metro e sessanta centimetri, dell’opera sono rimasti i piedi ancorati al basamento, realizzato in foggia di podio.

Il furto è avvenuto al Museo dedicato al pilota di formula uno Gilles Villeneuve a Berthierville, a circa 70 chilometri a nord-est di Montreal, in Canada, nella notte compresa tra mercoledì 30 e giovedì 31 ottobre.

I ladri hanno segato l’opera all’altezza delle caviglie e se la sono portata via dileguandosi.

 L’opera era stata realizzata dall’artista Jules Lasalle nel 1984, a due anni di distanza dalla tragica morte di Gilles Villeneuve, avvenuta l’8 maggio del 1982 a causa di un violento impatto durante le prove del Gran Premio del Belgio.

“Il monumento in bronzo di mio padre è stato rubato al museo. Quegli esseri senza anima, senza vergogna, non meritano di essere chiamati umani” ha dichiarato il figlio Jacques Villeneuve, ex pilota a sua volta.

In un video che lo stesso ha pubblicato sui social afferma “Non riesco proprio a capire cosa la gente possa avere nella testa o anche nel cuore, se ne ha uno: andare a rubare un monumento. Gilles ha rappresentato il Canada, il Québec a livello internazionale, non ce ne sono molti. Che ci siano degli idioti capaci di un simile atto… penso che siano persone senza né cuore né cervello, ed è vergognoso”.

Il furto è stato operato da più di una persona vista la mole dell’opera. Probabilmente, stando a quanto affermano gli inquirenti, è stato poi adoperato un campion per portare via la scultura.

Le autorità locali stanno setacciando il territorio in cerca di indizi, con l’intento di ritrovare l’opera anche se c’è il timore possa essere stata già fusa.

Azimut POS e BG Race Fuels hanno offerto una ricompensa di 12mila dollari canadesi a chiunque riesca a riportare la statua e l’imprenditore Richard Arel ha messo sul piatto 20mila dollari a chiunque possa dare informazioni che possano condurre ai ladri.

Gilles Villeneuve sculpture stolen

The bronze sculpture depicting Gilles Villeneuve was stolen during the night between Wednesday and Thursday. One meter and sixty centimeters tall, the feet of the work remained anchored to the base, made in the shape of a podium.

The theft occurred at the Museum dedicated to the Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve in Berthierville, about 70 kilometers northeast of Montreal, Canada, during the night between Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 October.

The thieves sawed the work at the ankles and took it away by disappearing.

The work was created by the artist Jules Lasalle in 1984, two years after the tragic death of Gilles Villeneuve, which occurred on May 8, 1982 due to a violent impact during the tests of the Belgian Grand Prix.

“My father’s bronze monument was stolen from the museum. Those soulless, shameless beings do not deserve to be called human,” said his son Jacques Villeneuve, a former pilot himself.

In a video he posted on social media, he says, “I just can’t understand what people can have in their heads or even in their hearts, if they have one: to go and steal a monument. Gilles represented Canada, Quebec at an international level, there aren’t many of them. That there are idiots capable of such an act… I think they are people without a heart or a brain, and it’s shameful.”

The theft was carried out by more than one person given the size of the work. Probably, according to what investigators say, a champion was then used to take the sculpture away.

Local authorities are combing the area for clues, with the intent of finding the work even if there is a fear that it may have already been melted down.
