Stanno per arrivare due grandi mostre a me dedicate a partire dalla prossima primavera al British Museum e successivamente alla Royal Academy di Londra.

Michelangelo: The Last Decades sarà l’esposizione dedicata agli ultimi miei trent’anni di vita che ripercorrerà, sala dopo sala, la nascita del Giudizio Universale come sontuosa pala d’altare affrescata per la Cappella Sistina ma anche i miei progetti di architettura per la Basilica di San Pietro e la genesi dei due affreschi che realizzai nella cappella privata del papa: la Cappella Paolina.

Il fulcro di questa esposizione sarà il Cartone dell’Epifania il cui restauro è quasi giunto a termine. Le indagini diagnostiche su questo capolavoro erano state avviate già nel 2018 ma non molto tempo si sono interrotte a causa dell’arrivo della pandemia.

All’interno del percorso espositivo della mostra “Michelangelo: The Last Decades” saranno presenti anche lettere mie, poesie e disegni che consentiranno ai visitatori di addentrarsi nella mia produzione artistica e nella mia sfera più privata dell’ultimo periodo della mia esistenza.

La mostra aprirà i battenti dal 2 maggio fino al 28 luglio 2024.

Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael. Florence 1504  sarà invece l’esposizione che avrà inizio il 6 novembre 2024 presso la Royal Academy of Arts.

Come è intuibile dal titolo, sarà dedicata ai tre maestri del Rinascimento: me, Leonardo da Vinci e Raffaello Sanzio. Il confronto permetterà di comprendere quanto sia stata accesa la rivalità con Leonardo e di quanto abbiano influito le mie opere sul più giovane Raffaello.

Non mancheranno in mostra i disegni della mia Battaglia di Cascina e di quella di Anghiari di Leonardo, opere entrambe perdute per sempre. Leonardo iniziò a metter mano all’affresco mentre io realizzai il cartone, quello che venne definito “La scuola del mondo”.

Nella mostra della Royal Academy sarà incluso il Tondo Taddei appartenente alla galleria da lungi e il noto cartone di Sant’Anna di Burlington House, appartenuto alla Royal Academy fino al 1962 e poi comprato dalla National Gallery.

Michelangelo: two new exhibitions dedicated to me are coming

Two major exhibitions dedicated to my artistic production are about to arrive starting next spring: one set up at the British Museum and the other at the Royal Academy.

Michelangelo: The Last Decades will be the exhibition dedicated to the last thirty years of my life which will retrace, room after room, the birth of the Last Judgment as a sumptuous frescoed altarpiece for the Sistine Chapel but also my architectural projects for the St. Peter’s Basilica and the genesis of the two frescoes that I created in the pope’s private chapel: the Pauline Chapel.

The centerpiece of this exhibition will be the Cartoon of the Epiphany whose restoration is almost complete. The diagnostic investigations on this masterpiece had already been started in 2018 but were interrupted not long after due to the arrival of the pandemic.

Within the exhibition itinerary of the exhibition “Michelangelo: The Last Decades” there will also be my letters, poems and drawings which will allow visitors to delve into my artistic production and into my most private sphere of the last period of my existence.

The exhibition will open from 2 May until 28 July 2024.

Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael. Florence 1504 will instead be the exhibition that will begin on 6 November 2024 at the Royal Academy of Arts.

As can be guessed from the title, it will be dedicated to the three masters of the Renaissance: me, Leonardo da Vinci and Raffaello Sanzio. The comparison will allow us to understand how intense the rivalry with Leonardo was and how much my works influenced the younger Raphael.

There will be no shortage of drawings on display of my Battle of Cascina and Leonardo’s Battle of Anghiari, both works lost forever. Leonardo began to work on the fresco while I created the cartoon, what was called “The school of the world”.

The Royal Academy exhibition will include the Taddei Tondo belonging to the far gallery and the well-known cartoon of Saint Anne from Burlington House, which belonged to the Royal Academy until 1962 and then purchased by the National Gallery.
