The Eritrean Sibyl: Noah’s daughter-in-law
I frescoed the Eritrean Sibyl immediately below the scene of the Sacrifice of Noah and the choice is not the result of chance.
In fact, I wanted the spectators to remember that the sibyl who predicted the day of the Last Judgment was Noah’s daughter-in-law.
Her presence is a bit like the union between the Old and the New Testament, between classical antiquity and Christianity.
While the Eritrean sibyl appears calm as she leafs through the book of clairvoyance, on the opposite side instead I positioned the prophet Ezekiel in movement who seems unable even to sit down for a moment to be portrayed by me.
Behind the woman we see the two geniuses: one rubs his eyes trying to stay awake as he can while the other, more vigorous, fills his cheeks with air to blow on the torch and brazier with the aim of giving light to the seer who is reading.
The Eritrean Sibyl, born Erophile, came from the city of Eritrean located in Asia Minor and was one of the best-known sibyls of all time.
She was dedicated to Apollo from a young age and, as the years went by, she became the priestess of the temple of Claro. I wanted her to fresco her dressed in an elaborate robe worn over a wide white tunic.
On her shoulders is fixed the cloak that descends along her back and bending over her, it changes the color from yellow to green.
For the moment, your Michelangelo Buonarroti greets you by making an appointment for the next posts and on social media.
