Il papa emerito Benedetto XVI è morto questa mattina alle ore 09:34 nel monastero Mater Ecclesiae in Vaticano
A partire dalla mattina di lunedì 2 gennaio 2023 il suo corpo sarà esposto nella Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano e i fedeli potranno rendergli omaggio.
Benedetto XVI, diretto erede di Giovanni Paolo II, era un teologo conservatore e ha aperto la strada a un successore più riformista come l’attuale papa in carica Francesco.
La sua rinuncia al pontificato senza dubbio ha fatto clamore. Oggi ci ha lasciato all’età di 95 anni. Mi piace ricordarlo in quel 9 di luglio del 2009, quando durante i vespri inaugurò la Cappella Paolina restaurata, con i miei affreschi alleggeriti dai depositi e sicuramente maggiormente apprezzabili.
Questo anno si conclude nel cordoglio. Il sempre vostro Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died this morning at 09:34 in the Mater Ecclesiae monastery in the Vatican
Starting from the morning of Monday 2 January 2023, his body will be exhibited in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and the faithful will be able to pay homage to him.
Benedict XVI, direct heir to John Paul II, was a conservative theologian and paved the way for a more reformist successor like the current incumbent Pope Francis.
His resignation from the pontificate undoubtedly caused a stir. He today he left us at the age of 95. I like to remember him on that July 9, 2009, when during vespers he inaugurated the restored Pauline Chapel, with my frescoes lightened from the deposits and certainly more appreciable.
