Ponte Vecchio nei prossimi mesi sarà interessato per la prima volta nella sua lunga storia da un restauro conservativo.

Un restauro impegnativo che durerà a lungo e avrà un costo preventivato complessivo di due milioni di euro. Già nei prossimi giorni verrà allestita una piattaforma galleggiante dotata di ponteggi, necessaria per effettuare i primi rilievi e installare il sistema di monitoraggio del ponte che avrà la durata di un anno. Verranno poi effettuati prelievi di campioni di materiali diversi, indispensabili per la progettazione del restauro.

La piattaforma rimarrà posizionata all’interno del fiume Arno per tre settimane salvo avverse condizioni meteo e verrà spostata di volta in volta fra le diverse campate. Oltre ai rilievi che verranno effettuati adoperando la piattaforma, sono previste alcune riprese con un drone tra il 24 e il 25 ottobre. 

Il restauro di Ponte Vecchio

I lavori di restauro interesseranno la rimozione delle alghe e di tutta quella vegetazione infestante, sui depositi incoerenti, fessurazioni e fratture della pietra serena divenute evidenti al di sotto delle arcate e sulle alterazioni cromatiche.

Dovranno inoltre essere eliminate tutte le macchie di umidità presenti nell’intradosso del manufatto, sulle spalle e sulle pile.  A seguire verrà posta particolare attenzione alle parti decorate che al momento sono poco leggibili. Prima della conclusione dei lavori verranno restaurate le parti di legno degradate e si provvederà a verniciare con uno speciale protettivo la pavimentazione per evitare percolamenti di acque piovane.

Si tratta di un’operazione inedita: nei secoli il Ponte ha subito varie trasformazioni e numerosi consolidamenti, ultimo quello dopo la drammatica alluvione del 1966, ma mai ci si era preoccupati dello stato della pietra e delle decorazioni. Adesso è arrivato il momento, grazie a un grande investimento da parte dell’amministrazione comunale, di un completo restyling che restituirà alla città e al mondo un bene iconico completamente restaurato e valorizzato.

Ponte Vecchio: the first restoration in history is underway

Ponte Vecchio in the coming months will be affected for the first time in its long history by a conservative restoration.
A demanding restoration that will last a long time and will have a total estimated cost of two million euros. A floating platform equipped with scaffolding will be set up in the next few days, necessary to carry out the first surveys and install the bridge monitoring system which will last one year. Samples of different materials will then be taken, which are essential for the design of the restoration.

The platform will remain positioned within the Arno river for three weeks except in adverse weather conditions and will be moved from time to time between the different spans. In addition to the surveys that will be carried out using the platform, some shooting with a drone is planned between 24 and 25 October.

The restoration of the Ponte Vecchio

The restoration work will involve the removal of algae and all that infesting vegetation, on the incoherent deposits, cracks and fractures of the pietra serena that have become evident under the arches and on the chromatic alterations.

All the moisture stains present in the intrados of the product, on the shoulders and on the piles must also be eliminated. Afterwards, particular attention will be paid to the decorated parts which at the moment are very difficult to read. Before the completion of the works, the degraded wood parts will be restored and the flooring will be painted with a special protective coat to avoid rainwater percolation.

This is an unprecedented operation: over the centuries the bridge has undergone various transformations and numerous consolidations, the last one after the dramatic flood of 1966, but the state of the stone and decorations were never concerned. Now the time has come, thanks to a large investment by the municipal administration, for a complete restyling that will return to the city and the world an iconic property that has been completely restored and enhanced.
