Dal 20 ottobre 2022 al 26 marzo 2023 sbarca a Firenze la mostra antologica dedicata a Escher. Allestita negli spazi del Museo degli Innocenti, la mostra propone i lavori più rappresentativi che hanno reso celebre in tutto il mondo l’artista olandese.

Maurits Cornelis Escher con le sue mirabolanti geometria e i suoi imperdibili punti di vista ci porta nel suo mondo surreale attraverso 200 opere in concomitanza con il suo cinquantenario dalla morte accaduta nel 1972.

La mostra di Escher è il primo grande evento espositivo che si svolge all’interno del complesso monumentale progettato da Filippo Brunelleschi .

Il Museo degli Innocenti è stato creato per esporre le opere d’arte dell’antico Spedale, lo straordinario centro d’accoglienza per bambini che nel corso degli anni ha accolto e cresciuto fra le sue mura un gran numero di bambini abbandonati, orfani o che comunque non potevano essere scresciuti dalle famiglie di origine.

Al suo interno sono presenti capolavori di artisti di grande rilievo tra i quali Domenico Ghirlandaio, Luca e Andrea della Robbia, Sandro Botticelli e Piero di Cosimo, ma anche di artisti cresciuti all’interno dell’Istituto degli Innocenti e successivamente avviati al mondo dell’arte dal priore Vincenzo Borghini come Vincenzo Ulivieri, Giovan Battista Naldini e il Poppi.

Fra i capolavori più noti di Escher presenti in mostra è possibile ammirare la Mano con sfera riflettente del 1935, Vincolo d’unione 1956, Metamorfosi II  del 1939 e Giorno e notte, opera realizzata da Escher nel 1938. La rassegna Escher nasce con lo scopo di introdurre i visitatori alle inquietudini del noto artista mediante le sue mirabili creazioni a metà strada fra arte, scienza, matematica e design.

Escher noto soprattutto per le sue costruzioni impossibili è uno degli artisti più amati del Novecento ed il suo lavoro è apprezzato oltre che dalla critica anche da logici, scienziati, matematici e fisici.

Con il patrocinio del Comune di Firenze e dell’Ambasciata del Regno dei Paesi Bassi, la mostra è prodotta e organizzata da Arthemisia in collaborazione con la M. C. Escher Foundation, Maurits e In Your Event, ed è curata da Federico Giudiceandrea, uno dei più importanti esperti di Escher al mondo e Mark Veldhuysen, CEO della M.C. Escher Company.

Escher at the Museo degli Innocenti in Florence

From 20 October 2022 to 26 March 2023 the anthological exhibition dedicated to Escher lands in Florence. Set up in the spaces of the Museo degli Innocenti, the exhibition offers the most representative works that have made the Dutch artist famous all over the world.

Maurits Cornelis Escher with his amazing geometry and the unmissable points of view of him takes us into his surreal world through 200 works in conjunction with the fiftieth anniversary of his death in 1972.

The Escher exhibition is the first major exhibition event that takes place within the monumental complex designed by Filippo Brunelleschi.

The Museo degli Innocenti was created to exhibit the works of art of the ancient Spedale, the extraordinary reception center for children that over the years has welcomed and raised within its walls a large number of abandoned children, orphans or who however they could not have been raised by their families of origin.

Escher, known above all for his impossible constructions, is one of the most loved artists of the twentieth century and his work is appreciated not only by critics but also by logicians, scientists, mathematicians and physicists.

Under the patronage of the Municipality of Florence and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the exhibition is produced and organized by Arthemisia in collaboration with the M. C. Escher Foundation, Maurits and In Your Event, and is curated by Federico Giudiceandrea, one of the most important Escher experts to the world and Mark Veldhuysen, CEO of M.C. Escher Company.
